A Sunday matinee wraps up the season series with the Bruins.

An early game on a back to back, there won’t be a morning skate. Expect Freddie in goal. I wouldn’t mind Stastny replacing Stepan either.

The Bruins clinched their division yesterday and are closing in on an historic season. They’re playing at a 133 point pace, the NHL record is 132, set by the 1976-77 Canadiens in an 80 game season. The Bruins have a ridiculous +117 goal differential, but they’re -2 against the Canes, with the Canes having won the last meeting, 4-1 at the end of January. That was the last game of a 3 game Bruins losing streak They’re 18-4 since that game but 3 of those have come in the last 10 games. David Pastrnak is closing in on 50 goals, he’s at 49, 2nd in the league. He also leads the team with 46 assists, 3 more than Marchand. The Bruins have 11 skaters with at least 10 goals. Pastrnak is the only player at a point per game, Marchand is almost there. Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman are running away with the Jennings Trophy, they’ve allowed 30 fewer goals than the 2nd place Canes. Ullmark leads the league in goals against and save %, Swayman is 3rd and 4th in those categories. In addition to leading the league in goals against per game, they’re 2nd in goals for. They’re 14th on the PP and have the best PK in the league.

Whalers jerseys today, the 6th different jersey the team has worn this year. Bally Sports South for TV.

Yeah, I thought Stepan was pretty awful yesterday although his game score was actually respectable on a night when the Canes got pretty well whomped on the stat sheet. Maybe it was just the 4-5 possessions he squandered in the O zone during the second when Carolina REALLY needed somebody to make a freaking play. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing Stas today just to change things up a bit. Sit Drury or RV for all I care.

You thought last night’s refs were bad?

Referees:
Ghislain Hebert #22, Graham Skilliter #24

Linesmen
Travis Gawryletz #67, Libor Suchanek #60

Skilliter hung around from last night. Between him and Hebert, they’ve worked 1,494 regular season games and 8 playoff games, all by Skilliter last year.

With match play and Texas-Miami on at the same time, the amount of time we spend on this will depend on how well they play. Hope we watch a lot.
