Ah, the Boxing Day special. One of my favorite days of the year.

The schedule monkey decided to test your level of Holiday cheer by pairing the dire, joyless Devils with the sometimes equally dire Hurricanes on a day when nobody has practiced for 3 days. The result? Probably ugly.

Still ... go enjoy. I'm sure you can pick up some tix on the cheap.

Exciting Game /snore

Must edit between snoozes Pesce scored I think or Nestrasil.

I'm liking the canes game more and more. They are doing all the little things so much better - winning board battles, taking the body rather than poking sticks, passing to the sticks instead of skates, and keeping teams from setting up.
Now if only the goalies(Cward) would, start earning his keep.

passing to the sticks instead of skates,
Yeah Now they need to work on receiving passes to sticks :p They seem to bounce over or bounce off the sticks instead of be absorbed and in position. I know Baby Steps.

Edit:

They also seem to have replaced Skinner with Nash. I'll admit the last few games Skinner hasn't been all that good at getting to the middle but that's not a great game plan Riley "Where offense dies" Nash isn't the answer.

Edit 2: Faulk scored at even Strength Bizarro world!

Edit 3 Nordstrom earns us Half price Papa Johns after Ward makes a good save on a tip. 3-1 'Canes

Just got back. Thought this would be a typical NJ game, but it actually improved as the game wore on. Skinner seems to be purposeless right now. I thought his overall play tonight was pretty poor. Really glad to see Faulk score - it's been a few games and he needs to keep rolling. Defensively, I thought we did an outstanding job of clearing the puck and keeping the Devils restricted to the perimeter. This game was SO MUCH better than the last time we played them at home.

Did anyone else notice how much Schneider LOOKS like Brodeur, especially around the eyes?

Justin Faulk Appreciation Post:

A Norris Trophy nomination level game last night for Faulk as he:

- scored the game winning goal (scoring queso and half-price pizza for everyone)
- was the primary assist on Nordstrom's insurance goal
- put three shots on goal (tied for game lead)
- logged most total and even-strength ice time for the team
- led all players with a +2 for the game
- held Cammalleri (Devils team leader in points, assists, and shots) to no shots and an assist (Hainsey and Liles on the ice for that one)

Strong two-way presence and already fast becoming an elite player at the "Old Man Faulk" age of 23.

The four remaining serious-salary years of his contract kick in next season, escalating from his current $3.5M/yr rate to $5.5M/$5.5M/$6.0M/$6.0M, but at an enviable $4.833 cap hit...which is about all that's good for on a budget team like ours...creating envy among the other fan bases and GM's. :sarcasm

Faulk (2010), Rask (2011), McGinn (2012), Pesce (2013), Nedeljkovic (2014), and Aho (2015). Our second-rounders are looking pretty good these days. Even Dumoulin (2009), is playing for Pittsburgh as part of the Jordan Staal trade package.

But then, haven't got the 2014 and 2015 choices here just yet. And Dalpe (2008) and Bowman (2007) looked pretty good, too, prior to hitting the NHL level.

All great reasons why E. Staal needs moved as quickly as possible so the "C" can end up on the one person that deserves it on this team. Justin is having a great breakout year....and he was already pretty good!
