After a pair of recent battles between Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid, all NHL eyes will be on UBS Arena in New York City tonight as #34 faces off against #47 Pierre Engvall.

The Maple Leafs appear to have pared back to 6-dmen in order to try to stop the Six-Pack, but whether enough time was spent preparing to confront these #Calves remains to be seen.

Kerfoot has 1 primary point since the promotion to the Matthews line and 2 points in total.

0G 2A in his last 12 games and hasn't scored a goal in 2 months. What the fuck are we doing? That guy should be forced to blow the fucking doors off on the 4th line for a few weeks before getting a sniff in the top 9, nevermind getting glued to Matthews for the last few weeks.

Fuck off Sheldon.

Here's a fun one:

5v5 minutes played

Kerfoot: 818
McCann: 806

5v5 goals

Kerfoot: 3
McCann: 25

5v5 Primary Points

Kerfoot: 12
McCann: 34

Kerfoot is 166th in 5v5 minutes this season (so basically a #5-6 forward). T-365th in goals, T-203rd in 5v5 points.

I’m starting to think that Keefe literally has no idea what he’s doing.

next ZAR will be on the top line

Got the type of team he's been begging for and it's playing terrible. Throw shit on the wall to see what sticks.

I guess the McCann/Kerfoot comparison isn’t all that relevant though.

Since what the choice came down to was protecting four defensemen and only being able to protect four forwards, or protecting three defensemen and being able to protect seven forwards—in which case both Kerfoot & McCann would have been protected.

So Justin Holl is the dude they ended up picking ahead of McCann. Which is also worth some criticism, since Holl hasn’t looked like much of a top-4 defender whenever he hasn’t been paired with a healthy Muzzin.

Even if Holl was a top 4 dman and continued to be a good one now, it wasn't worth protecting him over McCann, not when we had Lilly and Sandin needing a spot.

This fucking deprived us of a McCann-McMann line, fuckers.

Eh, it's a bit deeper than that.

Holl is who we went 4/4 instead of 7/3/ for, yeah. But we weren't going to pay McCann (who was owed 2.94 that upcoming season, then needed to be extended) and another forward like Kerfoot 3.5 with our cap structure.

Kerfoot has been the impediment to adding a salaried forward to the group for a few seasons now.
