Leafs Panthers deal

Elliotte Friedman
TOR has exclusive window to sign Hyman until Aug. 15, but were granted permission yesterday to talk to him. Would expect it gets done (1/2)
Per CBA, he is eligible to sign a two-year entry level contract.

Isn't he a free agent to be? Why give up McKegg?
I don't think Hyman's much of a prospect, but then again, neither is McKegg. He was drafted five years ago and has three full seasons in the AHL under his belt, where he hasn't really progressed beyond being a 50ish point player at the AHL level. He wasn't even good enough to use as an emergency fill-in when we had all those centers go down in the 13/14 season---we had to go out and spend a second round draft pick to bring in Peter Holland instead.

Hyman put up stupid numbers last year. He was 22, and put up awful numbers in previous years though. But why not, I guess. Pure stats move.

McKegg isn't a legitimate NHL prospect IMO.

Well atleast the ball is rolling on Leafs moves. Lets see something better than this. Hyman it looks to be a solid addition to the Marlies squad.

It's a 'my signed garbage for your unsigned garbage + a pick' trade.

McKegg will most likely be a ahler so, there isn't much to miss... But we got a lottery ticket.

The draft pick doesn't even really factor in. According to Bob McKenzie, the Leafs get the pick if they don't sign Hyman.

But although they haven't put pen to paper yet, the parameters of the deal have already essentially been worked out.

It will be a 2 year ELC and we'll see how much of Hyman's ability was because of Larkin and how much was him growing into his body and adjusting to the NCAA.

This is a Dubas get through a through....him and Hyman know each other well, and Hyman's development as a power forward this past season makes him a shrewd little get.

Probably would have had him for nothing, as he had already informed the Panthers he wasn't signing with them....but parting with McKegg was worth guaranteeing we landed him.

Is this more of a good will gesture type of trade? Looked like Florida was going to lose him for nothing.
