Nick Suzuki, 31st Captain of the Montreal Canadiens

I actually thought they'd go with Gallagher. He's been such a warrior for this team... but Nick is a major part of the future.

Winner by default, the only one of the serious candidates who retained something from his French classes in high school.

Not by default, the alternates were strong candidates by this was decided by management to frame the future.

Also I don’t miss the French captaincy controversies, starting with Mike Keane.

Why? So we can go through another selection process a year from now when Gally's body gives up the ghost and Edmundson gets traded at the deadline? Suzuki is here for the long haul and it's been a given since he arrived that the C was going to be his eventually. He's been a leader since Day One, something that Pacioretty never was. For once, and by accident since he actually wanted Cody Glass, Bergevin made a great trade.
