I'm not asking to be put in any Hall of Fame but if I were I would expect that there be some requirements pertaining to how I played the game and how I conducted myself that would be as relevant as how many goals, assists, home runs, touchdowns or whatever else I attained. Rose and Bonds have the numbers but it isn't the Hall of Numbers to which they are applying for admission. We should not be rushing to reward cheaters and assholes just because they were good at sportsing.

OJ Simpson had a Hall of Fame football career but he doesn't belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame because he was a piece of shit. Same goes for Rose, who in addition to being a piece of shit broke the cardinal rule of sports by gambling on the very games he was playing or managing. And the same goes double for Bonds, who cheated and lied and was a defiant asshole on top of that. Let him build his own museum and see if anyone wants to pay to see the inside of it.

If I were put in charge of the Hall, not only would I have strict rules for admission, I'd be kicking a few people out who are already in and don't deserve to be.
 
I guess you will want Favre out, Orr out, Reggie Jackson out, Paul Hornung out, Doug Harvey and so on. You are supposed to be judged on your ability and success in the sport, not whether you were an altar boy.

Strawman.

We aren't talking about Reggie Jackson being difficult with the media, Favre sending dick pics, or even Orr taking out an ad for Trump in 2020. Pete Rose gambled on baseball games in which he had a direct impact on the outcome. Barry Bonds did so many PED's that his head grew to three times it's normal size and his hitting prowess got better into his late 30's when it should have plateaued or declined. These aren't "personality quirks", this is CHEATING. This negatively impacts the integrity of the game. People need to know that what they're watching on the field is real. If they don't have that, then baseball ceases to be a competitive sport and just becomes "entertainment" like pro wrestling. Once people can no longer trust that what they are seeing is real, they turn away. So the very last thing that MLB should be doing is pandering to people who don't care what's real.

The Black Sox, even though they had reasons for doing what they did, nonetheless cheated themselves, their fans, and, not for nothing, the players and fans of the 1919 Cincinnati Reds, who have a World Series championship that no one thinks they earned legitimately.

Rose cheated countless teammates and fans throughout the years.

And Bonds put up numbers that, thanks to his PED use, are now rendered invalid because they can't be trusted as real. All his records should be expunged. Same goes for MacGwire, Sosa, and all the other PED cheats.

And no, you do not get to bring up another one of your favorite strawman arguments about Hank Aaron taking pep pills. They are not the same.
 
With the greatest respect, you brought up OJ and want him removed for being an asshole. He never "cheated" on the field. You never ranted and raved over Big Papi because you liked him. You were the one who claimed some were in just because they were good at sports.

OJ is a double murderer. At some point, your off the field activities can cross a line and impact your worthiness of being enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Killing two people in cold blood is about more than just being an asshole.

I wouldn't kick Gretzky out of the HHOF for being a Trumper. But I would remove the league-wide ban on teams issuing #99 to a player, I'd have his statue in front of Rogers Place removed, and his Order of Canada should also be rescinded. Let his records remain where they are, since he didn't cheat to get them. But drop him from the xmas card list. Don't extend him any invitations to appear at HHOF events. Keep the on ice deeds but cancel the man himself.
