Thinking I should post this for the latest updates on the team's up and downs as far as injuries, recalls and demotions, etc.

A tribute to the great Pens announcer Mike Lange, and the Pens sellout streak ends at 633? WTF?

When I was a kid growing up in Latrobe, my parents had a rule.

My brother, Vince, and I were allowed to watch the first period of the Penguins game on TV. Then, we had to go to bed. Begrudgingly, we’d trudge upstairs to our room. I’d climb the ladder to the top bunk as my brother flipped on my grandfather’s 1960s-style Zenith tabletop radio.

It was there that Mike Lange’s voice transformed our room into the Civic Arena.

With his uncanny ability to anticipate plays, his quick wit, vivid imagery and — of course — signature phrases, Lange made us fall in love with the game of hockey and sports storytelling

Story on the new guy, Josh Getzoff. I've liked what I've heard so far from the kid. Here's hoping to a long, distinguished career with the Pens, just like Lange.

When Mike Lange arrived in Pittsburgh in 1974, Bob “The Gunner” Prince, the longtime voice of the Pirates, welcomed him with a gift: an hourglass-shaped egg timer.

Each time it ran dry, Prince instructed the new play-by-play broadcaster of the Penguins to recite two key centerpieces of sports radio: time and score.

So more than four decades later, when Josh Getzoff arrived in Pittsburgh and began calling preseason games, Lange had a gift ready. In the press box between periods at PPG Paints Arena, Lange passed along an egg timer and a Pittsburgh broadcasting tradition.

With Lange's blessing, Getzoff begins new era as Pens radio guy
