Just some interesting early notes:

Paul Hendrick ‏
Matt Hunwick and Dion Phaneuf are D partners this morning. #TMLtalk

Mitch Marner lines up on the wing this morning with Peter Holland in the middle and Richard Panik on the other side. #TMLtalk

Mike Babcock emphasis immediately is on D-zone coverage. #TMLtalk

James Mirtle ‏
Expect some surprises with the Leafs lineup as Babcock says everyone has a "clean slate" from last season... http://www.theglobeandmail.com/spor...fax/article26413595/?cmpid=rss1&click=dlvr.it

Mark Masters
Kadri starting camp on line with Matthias-Lupul

Last season after you started "the ****ing season thread", our season did turn into a ****ing season indeed ... so, just saying ;)

Dion - Hunwick is an interesting pair ... but while I think Hunwick is a good addition, if this is indeed the #1 pair this season then Dion is right back to where he was the previous seasons - carrying a guy who has no place on the first unit otherwise.

Dion - Rielly is really the only logical 1st unit to me ... of course, that also means Dion will have to play the R side again. Hunwick shoots L too btw.

I wouldn't read too much into any of the line combinations or pairings this early.

Since there are so many players in camp, they've divided them up into three teams that they've tried to make fairly balanced:

Yeah lines don't matter in preseason, but coaches come in with ideas they are planning to test out.

So seeing things like Marner on a line with other young players legitimately competing for roster spots, Matthias on the wing, and Phaneuf back on the right side are interesting developments to keep an eye on. Also interesting that Babcock is getting right into systems stuff.

Listened to TSN lunch today and Mark Masters said Babcock was blowing the whistle alot and putting a strong emphasis on breakout plays and players keeping their legs moving in all 3 zones.

if you have periscope follow lauren howe she's broadcasting practice right now.

if you don’t have periscope get it.

Babcock said earlier today he's going to focus strongly on Kadri and Bozak to get them where they're capable of being.
