World Cup 2026 Thread

Yup, that first half sure summed up my feelings on Konate. I know that Ed is not happy that he's yet another player that Liverpool have let go on a free, but boy are they better off without him.

Olise with two shocking misses when France had brought it back to within one. He did also create two goals, so kind of a wash, but I cannot believe he missed both of those.

Not that we didn't try to sign him (and Trent even moreso) but Real has a reputation of doing that (Alaba and Rudiger come to mind). Ibou had been inconsistent the last year and a half, though, so I was bothered by the circumstances but losing the player? Not so much.
And today was one of those "when he's off, he's just awful" games we had too often last year. Well liked player but now that we've moved on, good luck to him trying to prove he belongs.

Well, you can’t say Spain wasn’t the best side in the tournament and they won … so, ole I guess. My man Dibu did everything humanly possible to keep Argentina in it, but you kind of need to actually mount an offensive threat at some point.

The scary thing for the Prem is how much (I thought) Rodri looked like his old self. My one friend pointed out, though, that he thought Rodri wasn't quite up to old speed, so there may be that. Still, a more effective Rodri, even if not quite up to his Ballon d'Or level, is a godsend for Man City

Btw, in case you missed it, the end of the match was ugly. Barely saw this on Telemundo (where I was watching) nor on Fox (which my wife had paused at the end of the match for some reason, so I rewatched most of injury time after I got home).

I thought Rodri was the best individual player in the tournament by a significant margin. He might not have that burst of speed anymore, but when he anticipates plays (in both directions) like that, who really cares?

Yeah, Argentina got into it post game with both England and Spain and there was no reason for any of that. Their federation should be on the hook for a massive fine and some other form of punishment because you just can’t let your guys act like that.
