The ****ing Off Season thread

again -- I heard something similar from somebody who has been in the room and knows a lot of the guys.

Yeah I get it, I just like to a more credible source other than "my friend told me". Otherwise it doesn't mean a whole lot.

Sorry, we'll get JVR on the horn to give details.

If it's a reliable poster with a reliable source then take it for what it is.

But even then, I don't think it's a huge deal. Rich white kids will party.

Them acting like kids is a problem though. Other teams/players are doing whatever it takes to be the best thye can be and win. Kids can't compete with men who act like professionals.

I don't get it. If you are lucky you have a 5-10 year window to play in the NHL, be one of the best in the world at something, and get to lift a cup. Why waste that opportunity by not making the sacrifices required. Its not like you have to do it for the next 40 years.

Most other teams are likely doing the exact same thing.

They definitely aren't. at least the good teams that win. They make insane sacrifices to compete at the highest level in the world.

Can't win without that level of commitment.

Sounds like, if true, our kids just have some growing up to do. Which isn't all that unheard of among professional athletes.

But I'm not sure how this growing up process is best facilitated. Do they need some veteran leadership in the room? Trade a couple of the ringleaders?

Well not by giving them absolutely zero veteran guidance. The leaders on this team are Phaneuf and Lupul and they have been since they were 25/26. And those are guys with pics/ vids of them on the internet partying.

Yeah, I'm hoping Lupul gets dealt this off-season.

I'm now inclined to agree with what mbow's been saying for a while---having this guy as a big part of our "veteran leadership" is a big problem.

You can see why he has worked his way through so many teams. It all started off so well with him but last year he was just terrible and provided no leadership.

True. I'd be more worried about the fact my 'leaders' want to be on the cover of GQ and show off their bow-tie collection vs. some coke use.

I wouldn't. No matter how good looking he is, if Lupul is a ten-goal thirty-point player he does not get exposure like this. You want to be at the top you need to play like it.
Coke on the other hand, will get to you eventually.

Lupul's one of the few older players the Leafs have that would return some actual value. It might be a good idea to unload now, while the dominant performances he had for a couple years are still fresh in other teams minds. I think we could get something good for him this offseason and it would free up needed cap space.
