OT: American Politics

Trump actually did pretty good for about 20 minutes or so. But then proceeded to get more and more incoherent as the night went on. #stamina

she is good. just layered in dig after dig but never went overboard. he couldn't control himself. meanwhile she didn't respond once to so many things that I would have responded to. she's way better at it than I am.

He needs the next debate to be 4 hrs long so he can showcase his STAMINA! Preparation is for the weak.
Very poorly prepared for. Really really dumb. He was completely unable to flip issues back on Clinton and she gave him several openings to do so and he chose to talk about himself. Asshat.

He listed his endorsements like an infomercial would.

I think HRC's best jab was questioning his business acumen (will his tax returns show he's not that successful, why so many bankruptcies, why so many disgruntled vendors who feel cheated)

Unlike the talking heads I don't believe this debate means much anyway. Clinton will probably get a boost until the next debate. Remember Romney crushed Obama in the first debate in 2012. Difference is that Obama came back in the second debate, I doubt Trump can.

I think it could be big. This is the first time they've ever been up against each other, the first time to back up all their tough campaign talk, the first time to expose the caricature they've been painting of the other for months - and I think Truml lived up to her caricature, and she did 't live up to his.

I think trump fans are probably more dissappointed than anything else, and that's the last reaction he wants. Happy, Angry, Entertained.....any of those would have been good results for him. But they probably just feel bad for him now, and that goes against everything he's about.

remember, that Romney-obama debate had a massive impact in the polls.

Lol. Ohio voter just said she's voting for the conservative party and if this jackass driving the mule train so be it.

Very few people will flip. This country is ****ed up.

I think the one mistake Clinton made was not talking more about why people should vote for her aside from "take a look at this guy, are you kidding me"?

I just wish she had made it perfectly clear in the tax issue that he had just blatantly lied about why he won't release them, instead of just leaving that implied.

Just flat out called his Audit excuse the lie of a 13yr old boy. "Let's be clear - not only is he hiding his taxes, but he just - in front of the whole country - just made up a laughable lie as to why....which proves he's hiding something"

her answer was good and did imply all that but i wish someone would just say it outright.

Trump really had no zip other than his anti free trade tirade. Most of his chatter about NATO and foreign policy was incoherent.

Short-term. Will be forgotten after next debate. Now if she wipes the floor with him again, he's toast.

never get a second chance to make a first impression.

the bounce will stick unless he comes up big in the next one I think.

the good news is that if this does have an impact, trump might go nuts next debate.

lol. undecided bernie supporter on cnn said she was disappointed that neither candidate struck a populist tone, focusing specifically on campaign finance reform.

of course, one of trump's advisors is the guy who has financed court cases to strike down finance reform.

if that's the most important issue to it - and that it was the first issue she brought up suggests that it is very important to her - how can you possibly support trump?

what an idiot.

also, trump focusing on her temperament... christ.

what a bag of lolls.

I see where you're going with it but I don't think it'll be that big because she came across as very scripted. Now in most years that's okay but this year? I'm not so sure. While he came across as a clear dope, she appeared smug often. Remember, most voters don't even know what the heck they're talking about. Appearance plays a big role. She looked like a politician, he looked like an idiot. Which one wins out in a year of change?

This is Donald Trump. He's been on TV here for over 15 years. There is no first impression.

I disagree. People don't give a shit about his lies anymore because she's been caught in many lies. She needed to pivot a little more to why they should vote for her aside grin the fact he is a moron. When your unfavorables are that high you need more than "he sucks more". She needed to give prior that view her unfavorably more than that.

I agree with you there.

But this is our first impression of how they compare to each other face to face, not just them as individuals.

CNN debate-watching poll with an admitted +10pt democrat skew says she won 62-27.

not sure what that's worth.

Again, in most election years you're right, this year it's baked in. These two are very well known. Anyone that actually thinks Trump is the change that's needed isn't thinking anyway.

I'm still in disbelief how badly prepared he was. I'm not kidding when I say most of us could have done better. So many openings that he didn't recognize.

re the democratic skew, they didn't account for 32% of the respondents... are those independents? real independents? or repubs who won't vote trump/won't admit they're voting trump?

I agree and I've said that before but this is more than just an opinion of them as people, its an opinion of how they compare. it's important.

the polls have been moving back and forth - those are swing voters and they're real.

he has never prepared for anything in his life. why start now?
