Claude Julien is new coach of the Habs

With a good coach now in place for the next 5 years and with ottawa about to pass us in the standings it's time to take a look in the mirror and seriously ask if it's time for a rebuild.

We now are set long term in the coaching area with a very good coach, so now could be a good time to start over. I understand that the 13-1-1 start complicates this idea, but I'm on board with trying to unload Pleks, Emelin, Weber, Markov and Petry. We can likely get a very good haul with all of that.

The problem here is that it's not in MBs own self interest to do this, and he will likely destroy more of the future just to try to ensure a playoff spot this season.

Being a "tweener" team is a the worst position in sports.

Julien took the job because he felt the opportunity was there to coach an immediate contender. So no, its not time for an immediate rebuild after 1 practice and 1 game.

Give him time to see what he can do with this lineup.

I'm not talking about one game. I'm talking about the last 40.

With Julien here now long term it's potentially a good chance to start over.

And Julien looked at 39 of them, said this team is a contender and I want to coach it on wednesday. Nothing has changed since that statement was made.

He didn't take the job to get started on the ground floor of a tear-down and then rebuild. That wasn't the message and the plan that Bergevin sold him on. They aren't changing that one game after he took the job.

Money was a big reason he signed here. Don't kid yourself.

As a fan of this team I hate the idea of destroying the future in or order salvage a sinking ship. It might be time to turn the page and do things right.

He could easily have sat on the sidelines for a couple months and seen what other teams were willing to offer as well. He didn't, he signed almost right away.

What this team did with massive injuries, and with Therrien at the helm has to be taken with a grain of salt. They are at least going to get the chance to see what they can do with Julien. I can't see a blow up this year, not at the trade deadline, or even in the summer.

MB will never get the authorization to strip & rebuild - unless MBs axed in the next 1.5-weeks this season will be about onward & forward.
The ownership consortium wanted Subban out for being unwilling to operate under the Habs charitable foundation for business reasons, they will not take lightly to missing playoff revenue for a 2nd straight season. The Habs have one of the largest debt ratios amongst NHL ownership (vs NYR & Leafs who have amongst the lowest) - this is a business first & foremost.

That...but mostly because of 25 mil guaranteed and the chance to work close to home (Ottawa)

Some people really love to live by extremes. One day it's rebuild the next let's add a piece and go for it...

There are enough prime age pieces to go for it. The question I have is why is Bergevin reluctant to deal prospects? They're really not that great.

Overall, I like the team. If Carey gets his shit together we'll be fine. Need a scoring centre and face off guy badly...

IMO MBs willing to deal any prospect not named Sergachev (the Julien PC was simply GM grandstanding to try to gain leverage position) but the real question is whether any other GM out there values (to the point of surrendering a sought after asset) a single Habs prospect not named Sergachev.

As a side note, if it hasn't been clear in the past 3-yrs, should be plain for the eyes to see TTs tenure as Scouting Dir should cease

Exactly. You dealt PK for an older Weber. That right there is a statement that you are in "win now" mode. I don't need to re-iterate the other reasons why our window is now. I can understand why MB or anybody here would be reluctant to "mortgage the future", but at what point do you stop looking to the future ? You've made your bed, now you lie in it. Everybody should be in play. Sergachev.....everybody. It makes no sense to look to the future at this point ......unless the organization is truly happy to make money without ever winning a cup. I have a hard time believing that.

I've never been delusionalabout this team. I've always said it's fundamentally flawed and requires a true rebuild. My argument is now that we have a solid and long term coaching group in house, it's time to start the process of being a true contender in 3 years. Moving vets would help the process.

I know it's not gonna happen with MB in charge. I don't need to be reminded about that.

They would have been in "win now" mode with Subban as well. That was a lateral to negative move.

They were flawed with either of those guys on the team. With Weber it's worse cause it's a much smaller window.
