You don't do it to steal their players, you do it to squeeze them. Offer Nylander 8M this year, they'll match, then next year Marner and Matthews will be RFA. And then they'll have 60-65M spent on 9 players, with big holes on defense.

Still, the Leafs are not in a bad shape, they don't really have any albatross contract.

You’re not getting it. First you offer sheet Nylander and let them match. Then you offer sheet Marner with $8.1m. Totally cap ****s then if they match that too.

I get it ....there is no way those morons are going to pull that shit off .

First off the Isles don't have the seconds and thirds to pull it off.

Secondly , 8.1 is a pointless number as you are looking at the expected range on their deals . Gardiner and Hainsey off the books after next year.

Marleau will be in Robidas Island or suddenly contract a mysterious mosquito bite that shelves him for the year .

The Leafs arent squeezed at all in the next 2 years .

This will be interesting to watch play out - old boys club vs new kid on the block.

I could very easily see Ken Holland do Lou a “favor” and fork over the Isles original 2nd and same with Chia-pet who owns the Isles 3rd rounder.

Handful of present GMs who were once attending Uncle Lou University.

It's a move that will backfire on the old guy and his depends will overflow eating crow .

Leafs have no issue retaining their 3 headed star kids. It will require a moronic deal to acquire Marner .

Dubas will gladly take 4 first rounders , most likely lottery picks in return .

They can't do that as they don't have their 2nd & 3rd for 2019. It'd have to be the four first round picks option.

Patrik Stefan is right up there too.

In terms of expectations, Daigle is more of a bust, but at least he was a serviceable NHL player.

Plus, it doesn't help Stefan's case when this is the most memorable moment of his NHL career:

DiPietro is the worst I can think of....injuries or not.


Gord Kluzak was awful ...I had never heard of him until I looked into it.
and Brian Lawton was not good.

For me it is Yakupov or DiPietro

I agree with Lawton, but Kluzak had his career completely derailed by injuries. He was a monster with mobility who did quite well when he played and would have been an excellent Bruins and player for his time. No telling how good he could have been....

I cant figure out how the fook he was a complete bust . Dude has skill but couldnt translate to the NHL from junior.

I wasnt expecting a star but not this hot shit bad. In a draft where there was no superstar this is pathetic for the Oils .
