Habs News & Notes: 2019 Offseason

Re: Habs News & Notes: 2017-18 Regular Season

Latest twitter rumour, Price will be traded for knocking up a 16 yr old gang member's GF who roughed him up.

This shit is a direct result of our team being riducilous re injury reports. This day to day minor injury has been three weeks, last one was min six weeks and was six months. Be honest and we will be fine. Lie and mislead a d you get this shit.

Radulov said he got a 5-yr offer from Bergevin back in Dec, with different numbers attached to it. Said he wasn’t prepared to sign then and had always planned to negotiate once season was through.

Being able to seperate rumours from some idiot saying something dumb on Twitter really isn't that hard.

Then again some people still think that #pizzagate is a real thing.

it is clearly not credible, but by the team being stupid and uber secretive about injuries, hell they are more secretive than the Americans were regarding the Manhattan Project, this is the type of crap that is generated.

Re: Habs News & Notes: 2017-18 Regular Season

The main reason Radulov is looking so good is mainly beacuse we are getting so little from Lehkonen, Galchenyuk and Hudon

Expectations alone from Lehkonen and Galchenyuk were at worse case a combined 40 goals.

Might get 20 from AG and maybe 10-12 from Lehkonen now

Re: Habs News & Notes: 2017-18 Regular Season

Trading Drouin for Sergachev was another mistake Bergevin will regret. Even if Drouin put up 70 points season regularly(which i doubt), he will not be the C everyone looking for. People said Drouin will replace Radulov, but his emotion and work ethic and leadership were not been replaced.

One mistake after another.

Re: Habs News & Notes: 2017-18 Regular Season

Missing out on Soviet players compounded by horrendous draft record post 84, was a seismic failure of vision which paved the way for 25-years of failure - just as or more monumental than MBs complete failure in not foreseeing the evolution of D position in todays NHL.

GMs are paid to execute and foresee the future, failure of vision takes years / decades to overcome.

People can blame the St.Patrick trade but the plunge into the abyss started well before with that lack of vision. By 93 there were at least 8-10 teams so far ahead of the Habs in terms of pure talent, due to simply capitalizing on the fall of the wall. #elitefreebietalent

While he missed on the Soviets and had a pretty tough 1rd round drafting record (like forever with the Habs, starting since 1974), he was still regularly finding players in later rounds (1987 was a pretty good draft year) and he left the team in fairly good shape when he was fired. Sure we were not as deep as the Wings and Avalanche but very few teams were.

This is the team he left to Houle. We were still in fairly good shape and a young team to boot. But we needed a few good drafts or trades to put us back to the top.

Someone remind me why we didn’t go after B Schenn ? Because Hemsky was better choice ?

Re: Habs News & Notes: 2017-18 Regular Season

I think the narrative here goes back to another stupid comment from MB back in the day as to how difficult it is to acquire top two centers via trade or UFA.

Didn't he go as far as to say it's close to impossible and that you need to draft them?

Well let's put things into perspective.

Nashville had a similar issue putting together a solid center line.

Three years ago they had Ribeiro and Mike Fisher as their top two.

Well Poile went to work and today they have Johansen, Turris and Bonino...not a bad trio acquired via trade and UFA for Bonino

Re: Habs News & Notes: 2017-18 Regular Season

Bergevin has had numerous occasions to get centers.....just love the end of season pressers filled with excuses

Re: Habs News & Notes: 2017-18 Regular Season

He knew (and said publicly) that this team needed to improve down the middle and he also said that he'd have to draft centers because they are too difficult to acquire via trade or free agency.

And for the next 5 years he uses his first round picks on nothing but defencemen and wingers. The one top 6 "center' he did draft, Galchenyuk, never gets to play center. The only other high pick he used on a center was McCarron, who will never be a top 6 guy. So in the end, Bergevin never followed his own advice. How can you not fire him for that?

Because his greatest talent trumps all his defaults: He's French

Insert any english GM, and he'd be out of a job after year 3-4....

Re: Habs News & Notes: 2017-18 Regular Season

The press is starting to turn on him, which isn't too surprising given that his arrogance didn't win him many friends. His enemies are sensing blood now.

Re: Habs News & Notes: 2017-18 Regular Season

he would be lucky to have 10 with us , where is my Seguin and Benn on that line

He hasn't been playing exclusively with those players.

And you're missing the point anyway.

The Habs would be better with him on the team. If him and Markov were on the team they would better than they were last year. They won the division last season.
