CNN poll released today on what respondents think of Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and other questions relating to what's going on over there right now.

among their findings:

Do you think the amount of military force that Israel has used in Gaza has been too much, too little, or about right?

51% of Democrats say Israel is using too much force in Gaza vs. only 38% Independents and 24% Republicans who think the same.

56% of Independents say Israel is using the appropriate amount of force or they believe Israel should be using more. 72% Republicans agree with this.

57% polled say Israel’s actions on Gaza are justified, including 45% Democrats, 56% Independents and 73% Republicans.

Seems as if he's referring to the "popular" opinion of the day as opposed to him personal opinion.
