Our cheap off season signings are all starting to look a little better. Hopefully that will continue until deadline day.

Also, is it possible that players we thought were no good, like Holland, might actually be something?

So what did Mac mean when he said Marner is too good to go back to the OHL next year and the only place he can go is NHL. What about the Marlies?

If you're a CHL player, as per your contract with your CHL club and the NHL's agreement with the CHL, you are not eligible to play in the AHL unless you turn 20 before the end of the year.

That's why so few teenagers ever play in the AHL. Most European prospects can't either because they're usually under contract. Kapanen and Nylander just both happened to be free agents.

So next season, guys like Timashov, Nielsen and Desrochers will be eligible to play in the AHL because they turn 20 before the end of 2016. Marner won't turn 20 until May of 2017. So it's either the Leafs or the Knights for Marner next season.

It's a shitty rule that I keep hoping they'll do away with every time the CBA gets re-negotiated. There should at the very least be some sort of "exceptional player" status to allow the best of the best to graduate and play in the AHL in their post-draft year, like they have for 15 year olds who want to play in the CHL.
