I hope it's Hagman.

Ship out his $3mn and between him, Stempniak and Ponikarovsky coming off the books that's $7.5mn to kick around.
 
I really, really like that Wayne Simmonds kid.

21 years old, growing into his 6'2" frame, has plenty of skill and loves to hit and fight.
 
I really cant see Burke trying to deal with Lombardi....who is a schmuck.

I mean, did you see Burke's face when the Kings announced their Schenn pick?

This kid has played too well for them to give up, but I would LOVE to land him. Guy's a player.
 
I dunno if they'd move Simmonds, though he would surely be a Burke guy. Same with Teubert.

Wonder if they would move Lokitonov.
 
Would a kid named Lokitonov be a Burke player? Unlikely.

As for Burke dealing with Lombardi: dunno what Burke thinks of him. Regardless, I think Burke is pragmatic enough to deal with anybody, regardless of what he thinks of them, if he can strike a deal to make his team better.
 
Assuming it wasn't a smokescreen, he showed that face because he wanted Brayden Schenn, and was pissed off when the Kings took him. This would prevent him from trading in the future with the LA Kings how, exactly?

Interesting rumour, I have no problem trading either Poni or Hagman for a younger, grittier, cheaper forward.

we still need truculence. burke has noted that; we need a big, strong guy in our top six who can dominate the game physically.

simmonds has the makings of that sort of player. he's a good fit. it's too bad that we don't have any picks to peddle to get a hagman + swap done. but then just maybe the kings are desperate enough to push for a playoff berth this year.

and now is as good a time as any to deal hagman.
 
throw in Grabovski and Stempniak too.

Stalberg - Stajan - Kessel
Poni - Bozak - Simmonds
Kulemin - Mitchell - Blake
 
If we are getting Simmonds + Moller, we'd have to give up picks/prospects of our own. Especially if we want to get rid of Stemp/Hagman.

Frolov needs a change of scenery, I think.

He is better and more talented than Poni offensively(2 30-35 goal seasons and a 44-assist season so far), and is worse defensively...but Burke wants to build a more polarized team. You will ultimately see more players like Kessel and Frolov(ie more pure skill types) composing our top 6, and a makeover done on our bottom two lines to add more size/truculence and defensive ability. That is his game plan...right now we have too many "tweeners" that, while being decent and worthy pieces, truly excel at neither half of the game.

Now that the Leafs have traded their next two 1sts for Kessel, Burke will also be looking for some goals in return if he moves one of those guys this early in the season. We need to stay out of the lottery and finish as high as possible, if not actually make the playoffs. The free agent market is looking fairly weak next summer. There aren't that many opportunities to get 30+ goal scorers, and Burke has shown that when a significantly talented player become available, we go for it.

Having said all that, I don't mind keeping Poni, he is a decent player. But if he's going to be looking for 3.5-4 million, I would rather spend that on a more talented player.
