OT: Movies/TV Shows

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I was being a nerd and researching the Angevin Empire last night when I came across the incident involving the White Ship's sinking. Now I really want to check out The Pillars of the Earth series, which is based on The Anarchy, the first post-conquest English Civil War, that followed Henry I's death in 1135.

It's the series that gets overshadowed by GOT.
Read the book.

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

What did everyone think of the season premiere of GOT?

very disappointed

but had to bring in some new characters (stannis, davos, etc)....thought they could have brought davos in better...but oh well

should be good from here on out

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Yeah, the opener was a pretty lacking in action and plot advancement. But like worm mentioned, they had to introduce some new characters and that took up a bunch of time.

Also, for anyone who can't wait, Episode two has already leaked online. Go check your favourite torrent site, and you'll be able to find it.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Twas a character builder episode....Stannis and Mellisandre seem spot on IMO.

Joffrey is still the biggest cvnt on TV....

Love how the second book (and I assume season) is all about the imp. Love him.

Davos looks different than I pictured him...but not a huge deal.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Yeah, Davos isn't at all like I picture him either. And Melisandre's good, though I pictured someone older.

Then of course, the other thing is that for whatever reason, Renly in the TV series is completely different than how he's described in the books.

With Renly...I only started reading after I watched the TV show....so I didn't notice that.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Waiting for episode one to stream. Once I finish the eight parts of the mini-series I'll move on to GOT.

In the books, in physical appearance he's described as a (younger and not fat) carbon copy of his older brother Robert. He's also described as having a similar personality (outgoing, charismatic, a people person). In the TV show, he's sort of depicted as a nervous, whimpering little twig boy being led by his lover.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

are their any oin's and gloin's in GOT books??? because I know the love affair with the hobbit and LOTR but I am not a fan AT ALL.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I've really been looking forward to watching the next episode of Sherlock all day but now that I see everyone says 5 is the worst I'm a little bummed. However, even a bad episode is pretty good. Episode 2 was weak in comparison but still very good.
