Re: Subban...

A friendly reminder, the Oakland A's & Raiders of the 70's hated each other & got into bar brawls on a regular basis - yet pulled together as a team come game time. All this bullsiht about cancer in the room is just that bullsiht. When you win, and know how to win, none of this matters.

PK & Meehan are doing nothing wrong by standing firm (nor is Bergevin), what I keep reading consistently, term seems to be the stumbling block not $$, that's a good sign - PK wants security of yrs, Bergevin wants a shortterm deal. There's a compromise to be made, and will eventually occur.

Re: Subban...

what you don't know is that hockey players in general love to play pranks and joke around in the dressing room with each other. Our GM was a big practical joker during his playing time. Every team has those players, it keeps the dressing room fun and that is good.

Actually I do know that. Don't see what that has to do with what we were discussing though. It's not the jokes that create the friction. It is the limelight seeking characteristics.

Sure, when you win. When you don't then it can become a major distraction.

As to the term, 7 years vs 2. Sounds like 4 or 5 would be the compromise.

I think it is more the limelight is seeking him...

Re: Subban...

I am sure PK didn't seek these out.. they wanted him because he has that personality

Re: Subban...

On Subban’s Bridge contract… vs Price and Pacioretty.

When Price was given his second contract in the summer of 2010, he was coming off a poor season where he had lost his starting job to Jaro Halak in the playoffs. He had much to prove.

When Pacioretty was given his second contract he had just had his first productive half season in the NHL after being in the AHL at the start of the year. He had 14 goals and 24 points in 37 games. Was injured with a broken neck and severe concussion. And he had a total of 123 NHL games 20 goals 29 assists and 49 points to his name.

Last season PK was given the most ice time of any defenceman on our team. He played over 24 minutes per game and was matched against every team’s top line. He led the team in scoring by a defenceman. He played top penalty kill and powerplay minutes. He was +9 on a 28th place squad, and was clearly our best defenceman on the year.

Seems pretty clear to me that his career and situation isn’t the same as those two and I understand why he wants more than a bridge contract.

Re: Subban...

PK is probably the real deal, but I think everyone should realize that I will always make shit up about him being a cancer in the dressing room due to his style, personality, ego and love of the limelight. No getting away from that.

Fixed

Please post a link to a player or coach saying these things about PK... otherwise it's all speculation.

exactomundo...ie Gill calling PK a as/hole and then laughing 10 mins later.

All that aside, PK (did I mention I was a big fan, I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm racist)...where was I? PK didn't exactly have an awesome season last year. His shot missed the net by an average of 3 feet and he was caught freelancing way too many times. I think handing him a 2 yr deal is appropriate.

Subban had a really bad first half of the season last year of my memory serves me well. That's when he got benched and you saw the episode where he was getting yeld at during practice.

He came to his own in the second half of the second. This Kind of look like Pacioretty's last season before he signed that 2 years contract.

He seems like about as likable guy as you can find. Of course he's confident and full of energy but that's part of what makes him so likable.

Re: Subban...

Let's get real. Everybody here would hate PK if he played for Boston/Toronto/Philly, etc.

If he played for Boston? Maybe... but not if he played for a non-rival. I know for a fact that a fair bit of Leaf fans like PK and Price.

Price got a bridge contract of 2.750M, MaxPac 1.6M. Seems like we're discussing over 3-3.5M for Subban here so it's representative of his performance. Don't forget that he sucked in the first half of the season.

On the season, PK's numbers were best on the team.... his level of competition was the best players in the league (as him and Gorges were always against the other teams top lines), and he still finished +9 on the season.

While he was better in the second half, I think his first half struggles were overexaggerated.

Remember PK on his career has

21 goals 76 points in 160 games as a defenceman.
20 goals 49 points in 123 games as a forward on the day Max Pax signed his bridge deal.

I think PK is significantly ahead.
