OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

robyndoolittle @robyndoolittle
Lawyer Brian Shiller - a top attorney who works with Clayton Ruby - has just sent me a formal statement about the mayor's legal threat...

robyndoolittle @robyndoolittle
Shiller: I am offering to act for all of the proposed defendants in Mayor Ford’s anticipated lawsuit on a pro bono basis....

robyndoolittle @robyndoolittle
Shiller:... It is important that a signal is sent that the citizens of Toronto will not be intimidated by the Mayor of Toronto...

robyndoolittle @robyndoolittle
Shiller:... from cooperating with the police in an investigation into potential wrongdoing by the leader of this great city.

Philip Preville @ppreville
Why do you need to keep talking about the oral sex joke I made on live TV? RESPECT MY FAMILY'S PRIVACY PLEASE

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I really cannot believe any of this is real, even the worst Hollywood hack couldn't come up with the stuff we are witnessing right now.

I dunno. I think he's the character the Coen Bros forgot to write. John Goodman is jonesing.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

If his family and friends gave two shits for Mayor Ford, none of this would still be going down. He would be getting treatment and dealing with personal issues with professionals.

This has the potential to end in a suicide.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Seriously, he's convinced me that I'm fit for public office, skeletons be damned.

Both he and his brother, both seem to think that because they've both made significant mistakes in their lives, that everyone has made the same mistakes, and seem to miss entirely, that a higher level of accountability is expected, by the people of Toronto, of it's elected officials than they expect for the newspaper writers at the Star, the camera guy for CP24, etc.

The lack of self awareness is mindboggling.

I can see it now, media, Ms X says you told her you wanted to jizz on her chin.

Mindz reply, **** that bitch, I have enough chins to jizz on, don't need her's

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

As a non-Toronto resident I gotta say that I hope he does not resign as this is beyond entertaining to watch.

P.S. the drunk driving charge was a bit of a low blow as I'm sure that all of us here have driven beyond the legal limit too from time to time.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

We really need to put all of this behind us until Ford speaks again tomorrow.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I admit I am surprised at the negative reaction from some posters on this board. Many of them love to tell us about their drug use, drinking behaviour and sexual exploits. Why is it different if the mayor tells you about his?

Big presser from Obama this morning, saying people could re-instate cancelled health plans for a year, and basically just admitting the whole rollout has beena huge cluster****. Wonder how this one's gonna go over.

In sum:

Josh Lederman @joshledermanAP
Stunning Obama mea culpas today. "There are times I thought we were kinda slapped around unjustly. This one’s deserved"

to be honest, I thought the mayor was just a hard partier and really didn't have a problem with him partying on his own time. But chugging mickeys of vodka in a parking lot in the middle of the day is far beyond anything I've done.

but as always, it's the dishonesty and hypocrisy that make the difference here. this is a man who has platformed on zero tolerance for this kind of crap, and it turns out he's the worst abuser - but doesn't think he has to face consequences for it. This is a man who was outraged that a community centre worker took a nap at work, publicly shamed him, and demanded his firing.

and as for bragging about sexual exploits, well, the dude is married.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I can't trust someone who puts himself in a position of having "the worst day of my life" every week.

His apologies are useless unless he admits his problem is way deeper than a few random episodes. It's like a player apologizing after every game for having a bad night and costing his team. At some point, you have to realize that you are unfit for your job.

stupid thing is, the people who had plans cancelled are ones with worse coverage than they could get but I guess if they want that plan, who is Obama to stop them
