How many number 6 defencemen play 25 minutes a game? You are asking for the Isles 2nd highest guy in icetime, and best in terms of talent.

Strome is 20 years old, and one of the top prospects in hockey.

Have you watched an Isles game.

Here's a fair proposal by your logic...

Mbows logic wasn't to trade hickey + some stupid enforcer for a legit prospect. I see your point BKerr, but you're using the worst players for this comparison to prove your point lol
 
If people ripped Kessel for being one-dimensional, I can't imagine how badly Grabner would be destroyed in this city.
 
grabner makes no sense in any way possible. there is no room for him anywhere on the roster.

besides, he's waiver wire material at this point anywyas.

Of course I made my proposal absurd as well.

That said the Islanders arent giving you a top 5 pick (who is progressing as a prospect) and a young defenceman who is already their best... for the Franson, Gardiner and a 1st.. Its just not happening.
 
well, he's not their best.

MacDonald is their #1 dman by a good amount, which I guess is pretty telling itself.

strome is a good prospect.

you're still going way overboard. the leafs give up risk, and they give up the two most proven commodities, one of whom has been one of the most productive defensemen in hockey since the start of last season.

maybe they wouldn't. that doesn't make it a ridiculous proposal, though.
 
Personally, I didn't think it was a fair trade proposal either...but in my opinion, the Leafs would be the ones getting the short end of the stick. Feel free to fire away, Bkerr.
 
I wouldn't do that trade from a Leafs perspective either.

I wouldn't be moving Franson. The guy needs to be played with a better defensive partner.

THe way i see it:

Phaenuf - XXXX
Gunnarson - Franson
Reilly - XXXX

Is how it should be until Reilly is ready to take over on the 2nd pair for Gunnarson.

Gardiner for Strome seems decent. I can care less what Hockeys Future or Fanboads alike have to say about prospects and their ratings of prospects. We are giving up a smooth skating "PPQB" potential defender who has been in the NHL gaining experience since 20 years old.

Giving up a 1st round pick is also out of the question for me. Time to start looking at the big picture and keeping our picks.
 
I'm 100% fine with trading Franson. I think it's a move we have to make, actually. This summer, we're either going to have to fight and scrap with Franson's agent to sign him to another one-year, low salary deal that takes him to unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2015, or we're going to have to shell out big bucks and sign him long term. I have no interest in the first scenario, since that would likely mean losing him for nothing or having to trade him as a pure rental.

I also have no interest in the second scenario either, as things stand. To make it worthwhile to pay to keep this guy long term, he's got to show that along with the pretty offensive numbers he put up last year, that he's capable of playing solid second-pairing minutes, and not just be a PP specialist that can only play sheltered third pairing minutes effectively. The final verdict may not be in, but it's not looking good for him so far.
 
It's hilarious how Leaf fans always think they can acquire a star player/prospect by bundling 2 players they are indifferent to.
