Leafs - Sens - Habs 2013-14

Eugene Melnyk just finished his presser in town. Basically:
-Only idiots spend to the cap;
-Jason Spezza is one of 20 players, changes are going to happen;
-Paul MacLean is a fantastic coach and he had an off year;
-Tim Murray and other scouts don't leave the Senators, we (the Senators) decide they are done here.

With that said, Melnyk has gone from quirky awesome uncle-type owner to an absolute meddling idiot.

Apparently he sat in on exit interviews. YOU PAY PEOPLE TO DO THAT FOR YOU.

Randy Carlyle presser:

-Defence is priority, not enough of a commitment on backside of puck;
-Met with Shanahan but no talk about work, knows coaches hired to be fired;
-Leafs are excellent on the rush but very inconsistent, that needs to change;
-Team lost it after the western road trip. Told players to "breathe", holding sticks too tight;
-Doesn't think players tuned them out, just lack of confidence. Shoulders would slump after an early goal against;
-Lots of investigation and assessments at all levels, leadership will be zoned in on. Will talk to everyone;
-Changed culture of group, tried to be hard to be play against. No identity this year, very disturbing;
-Team never gelled. Clarkson suspended, Bolland lost, Bozak lost, roster always in flux, was awful;
-"Visualize what it means to be a Toronto Maple Leafs." Weren't able to create that identity;
-"If you think you have all the answers you're in the wrong business.";
-"Two defencemen in Rielly and Gardiner, Kadri 50 points at 23, excellent. Nazzy and Jake need to improve.";
-"I'd be hard and fast on some early decisions and commit to them. I'd do some things differently.";
-"Defenceman playing Rover vs. Condensed style, leash longer at some spots of season.";
-"We're embarrassed by what happened and we don't have an ultimate answer at the moment."

I'm not saying what Carlyle said isn't true, but only once did he take a small part of accountability for his part in all of this. Who was the one responsible for playing Mckselke nearly 20 mins a night some games? Carlye Who told the players constantly to collapse back in front of their goalies most times when the Leafs were in the defensive zone Who was the one who employed his players to play a dump and chase game knowing full well it didn't work? Carlyle, Who was the one who kept on playing Clarkson on the 2nd line? You guessed it Carlyle!

It would have been great instead of throwing his players under the bus if the coach would step up and take his blame. I get it, the players ****ed up bad BUT the time to lay blame on them isn't at the season ending press conference, that's something done in private.
