"What an uncoordinated, slow, untalented spaz this McCarron dude is."
BTW, it takes longer for very tall athletes to develop coordination. Just saying.
Exactly... just because the Corey Lockes of juniors can fail doesn't mean that shitty junior players can succeed. The reverse is just not true at any great rate.
The number of guys who are 3rd liners in the CHL at the age of 19 and go on to make the NHL is miniscule. Consider that there are 180 third liners in the CHL in any given year, and that the average would be that maybe 1 every 5 years or so goes on to become a productive NHL player (at least 100 NHL games played). We are talking about approximately 0.1% of guys.
If you are a third liner at age 19.... chances are you aren't making the NHL ahead of guys who are playing on the top 2 lines.
How many of those third liners play on a stacked CHL team? The disparity of talent across CHL teams is enormous.
How many of third liners are physically fit to ever play in the NHL? The majority of junior players, in my opinion, never make it to NHL because of lack of strength - not lack of skills.
A stacked chl team is still going to lose to the worst ahl team and badly. Youre still looking at 60 chl teams plus ushl.. plus europe plus ncaa etc... etc...How many of those third liners play on a stacked CHL team? The disparity of talent across CHL teams is enormous.

But guys like Weise who were never even point per game guys in the CHL make it to the NHL. So a guy like MM who's looking like he's going to be a 1.5 or better player at 19 and is 6'6 probably have a decent chance to make it and maybe even be better than Weise.
Weise is the exception. Very few guys like him. Far more Malholtra... white... lapierre...etc types on fourth lines. But guys like Weise who were never even point per game guys in the CHL make it to the NHL. That said i wasnt even talking about mccarron. Im talking about a third line player at the age of 19. MM is playing (and playing well and scoring) on the top line this season. In his 19/20 season hes a top line player. So discussing a third line player at 19 and their chances of nhl success being low is not discussing MM.
This isnt the be all and end all. We need to see him in the ahl next year. But there is no doubt McCarron's season to date is far more encouraging than last year.
Pacioretty is still an ugly skater at 26 years of age. But those powerful strides tho. And the wrist shot.
