Updates and Rumours from around the League

Unintentionally though. He's just weird guy that rubs everyone the wrong way.

If he threw a party and invited the whole board, no one would attend.

Your phone autocorrects from Hamhuis to Hammond?

Wish my phone was a hockey fan, to know Hammond even exists after a month in the NHL. Cool phone.

Hammond is a common word in the English dictionary. Hamhuis is not.
Even Firefox doesn't flag "Hammond" as a typo, but it does flag "Hamhuis". But you guys knew this already. You just needed your fun for the day.

Can you recreate the auto correct? I know I can't.

Is it that hard to just admit that you misread the guys jersey?

Either way, it's a pretty entertaining dive.

Heh, put like that, that's pretty crazy.

And half the points (and the only goal) from the people we traded away come from Daniel Winnik. One goal and four points in 11 games, which is only slightly below his pace in Toronto. Out of all the rentals we traded away, he's the only one that's giving his new team good value for what they paid. Everyone else has been a total bust. Had we traded away Booth though, he'd probably be a bust too. He's just making the most of getting extra ice-time for a bottom-feeder in garbage time.

I remember taking flack for suggesting signing all these suitcase players was a bad idea. NHL clubs should be calling up young guys and creating an atmosphere where players feel like they can work up to the big club.

Seems to me like the Leafs will finally take that approach.

except those 'suitcase players' netted us a 1st, 2nd, and Leipsic. and it's not like we needed guys like Leivo/Brown/Nylander participating in this shit show this season.

I'd actually expect the Leafs to take a similar approach next year, rounding out the roster with UFA vets on cheap 1 year deals that become assets at the deadline.

Sweet. I hope they keep doing that too.

I don't think playing in the abomination that was this years Leafs would have been any better for our youngsters development than getting prime time minutes in the AHL and competing for a playoff spot has been.

There will come a time where we'll want young guys rounding out our roster, but that time hasn't arrived yet.

I can. But how in the world can I prove that to you? Mount a webcam behind me as I type it and stream it here??
I mean, c'mon.
"Ham" - Hamiham, Hamm
"Hamh" - Hang, Hanging
"Hamhu" - Hangups, Hangup

In short, no part of "Hamhuis" ever autocorrects to "Hammond".

Yes, ideally, you graduate prospects from your AHL club to fill the spots of these "suitcase players", but the Leafs just aren't there yet. And because we're not there yet, we may as well take advantage of the fact that this is an ideal landing spot for "bargain bin" signings who want to leverage the opportunity and media exposure here into the kind of contract Mason Raymond signed last summer. It's good for them, and it's good for us when we can turn them into valuable future assets at the deadline.

Now, we do have some guys in the AHL that look like they're decent bets to be NHLers (Brown, Nylander, Leipsic, Loov, Percy) and a few other guys who may be able to turn into useful depth players (McKegg, Leivo, Carrick, Granberg), but they're all still pretty young and need more time developing in the AHL. Rushing them to the NHL won't help them, or us.

Just look at your own team, for example. Do you think Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman would be better off if you'd force-fed them full-time NHL minutes when they were 20/21 years old? Or do you think they and the organization are better off because the Sens were patient with them?
