Leafs/Habs/Sens 2014-15

Oh man, this stuff is great. Finally some entertainment value around here.

These schmucks boasting about their 9th place team will never get old. Congrats guys!

During the streak the Sens are 6th in the NHL in scoring chance differential. How exactly is Hammond effecting that elite level Stat?

Easy... when a team has a hot goalie in net, it allows the D to take chances (knowing it wont end up in the back of the net) and allows the forwards to take higher chances as well, that equates to more scoring chances.

Derp...that would lead to giving up more scoring chances.

Follow along... it leads to higher chances FOR because of the teams confidence in their goalie... a team that doesn't have trust in their backstopper tends to tighten up and play nervous which is when scoring chances against are usually higher.

In the end, who cares what the reason is for the Senators improved play since January 1? If it is Hammond, well he is part of the team so who cares if he has been the best player.

If it is others, like Stone playing out of his mind, who cares?

They got hot, might have left it too late and they are running out of games, but in the end, the team record is all that matters, not why.

You really are special.

The number of chances created is no more important than the chances given up when discussing scoring chance differential. Playing the system you describe would help one but hurt the other.

The goalie isn't creating chances or giving them up.

You really are a brain dead moron aren't you? You are the one questioning WHY Hammond is affecting the Sens scoring chances for... I just gave you a very valid reason, if you can't see that well then your head really is stuck in the clouds now isn't it?

Now I remember why I never respond to your idiotic drivel...do carry on, nothing to see here.

Well, the point is that other numbers are also indicating that the team has been improving. Jan 1st, as a date, doesn't REALLY matter. It's just a bench mark that we often use. The point is that a young team has been improving all season. Whether they make the playoffs or not doesn't change the development of the team. That's what I care about.

some of us post on hockey message boards to discuss things more nuanced than team record.

Reminds one of everyone on the board (except cork) and blacksheep. First user that I have ever ignored on a message board. Even teeds once he went off his meds didn't get that treatment from me.

I don't have a dog in this fight because I'm not sure if the data equates to an outcome that either of you have described, but hypothetically wouldn't you limit more chances against and increase chances for by being an improved puck possession team? You can increase your chances against the opposition and still prevent them from getting as many shots against if you always have control of the puck (see: Detroit, Boston, Chicago).
