The Bergevin Contradictions

Re: The Bergevin Contradictions - My post-season wrap-up. (Long read)

While it is just a hockey board, this is the only place where I can write an English text in longform. My job is basically 99% French and I don't write or speak anything in English outside of here & twitter, and the occasional email. Not to mention I'm a terrible writer and never learned how to write an essay until fairly recently. So I do try to take pride in writing something good and I should have proofread it, but whatever. It's still fairly coherent despite an abundance of mistakes.

I had a client once whose emails to me never exceeded five or six words. Ever. It was interesting.

And people conveniently forgot that he started to show signs of taking off when he was still playing on the wing, thus earning a chance to play centre on the top line again. I still dont think its a big issue where he plays. If the Habs by miracle win the lottery and get Matthews, where would you like to see Galchenyuk play? On the wing with Matthews centering the first line? Or centering the 2nd? Think about that one...

Of course it's a major issue.

He is the only player on this roster that is remotely capable of filling the hole of a #1 center. DD can't do it, Pleks can't do it, Eller sure as shit can't do it. Nobody else can. That's why it's a major issue. If there were other player on this team that could be the #1 center, I'd have absolutely no issue with putting Galchenyuk on wing. Absolutely no issue. But there isn't that other player and instead of putting him in his proper slot, they fiddled with him.

that's so you can't bill him 30 minutes for reading a six word email.

You are better in English than most here are in French so don't worry.

No, he's just nuts. He's now in federal prison for some very bad financial fraud . . . like the worst in Pa. history.

Dudley found Weise, Condon, Carr, that goalie from the OHL they signed last summer, and Lindgren....

I wouldn't brag about finding Condon.

One of my buddies got caught in the recent major drug bust. He's looking at 10+ years in jail.

Good read GG.

One point is i don't think problem was playing chucky in center or wing as he scored majorities of his goals from right side spot, the issue in my opinion was his confidence and ice time, when DD got injured he felt more confidence and his game got to another level.

Galchenyuk's game got to another level after he made the headlines for being punch by his ex girl at his infamous penthouse party.

The kid decided to take care of business and focus on hockey.

He decided he wanted to score goals like Ovechkin.
He started to make extra time after practice to work on that one timer with Markov.

Extra work paid off, started to score plenty from the right circle.

Then confidence came.

Bernie Madoff was your client?

Galchenyuk performed when the team was out of it & no pressure on him. He still has to prove himself as "the guy"..

Re: The Bergevin Contradictions - My post-season wrap-up. (Long read)

I don't think its so unusual that it took time for a 21 year old to find his game.

I've never agreed with the narrative that we ruined him by playing him 12-14 minutes a night in the NHL instead of playing 18-20 minutes a night in junior. And his results this year just goes to show that he wasn't ruined.

Development can happen at the NHL level, as long as the kid is getting minutes in the NHL, sometimes those minutes playing against better players are more important than dominating a lower level.

All depends on the player, everyone is different.
