I don't apologize for MB. I'm just not a blind PK fanboy. I believe that this trade can be justified as a "mortgage the future to win now" move and for a team with only 2 Cups in 37 years I'm more than ready to trade the future for the present.

They said the Mcdonaugh trade would set us back a few years, but then we made the ECF in 2 of the next 5 years (regardless of the fact Rangers also made ECF-Finals also).
I think we will be fine without Subban...at some point, Bergy felt that Max-Price needed to win now (contract-injury issues), and he felt Weber was a better fit than Subban

Problem with this statement is that he Habs were better positioned to win now with Subban. Subban is already better than Weber and has been the last 3 seasons.

Lets summarize what happened here. The players in a way decided Subban's fate by lacking intestinal fortitude when the going got tough. Management was pissed off and decided they needed to change the culture. Weber is one of the best big bodied leaders in the game today. Management figured they had to sacrifice Subban to get it done.
And we all keep wondering if this could have been done differently without trading Subban. That is the only remaining question.

Good point and we needed a major trade to shake up the core . Add Radulov and Shaw and this team has changed big time on paper.

Basically all metrics show we got a weaker player. Not sure how you who obviously only see things "rationally" could think this makes us better given all metrics show that we got the weaker player.
I thought the game was played on the ice, not on some metrics board. Want to see how the pieces fit together.

Metrics and eye give edge to Subban. In any event, it was bad enough trading but the hatchet job by Nero through his lackeys in the press is beyond pitiful. It is so classless that it tarnishes the organization.
Muller will replace the Dolt in due course. As for the eye test, I haven't seen enough of Weber, and he's never played with us so no one really knows, but I've seen enough of PK's low hockey IQ to be confident that we'll be fine in the next 2-4 years minimum.

Metrics aside Weber brings much needed elements to this team that Subban did not, not the least of which is some genuine menace. For years, decades in fact, this team has been too easy to play against in general and especially soft in its own zone in particular. We need a guy back there who opposition players are afraid of. They may respect PK's talent but nobody worries for their own safety when he's on the ice. But if you aren't paying attention when Weber is on the ice he will fcuk up your $hit. That sort of thing doesn't show up on a stat sheet. There's no metric that accurately measures the degree of fear instilled into an opponent.
After last season's debacle the core of the team needed to be broken up. Pierre McGuire likened it to sending a bolt of lightning through the middle of the dressing room. Well if you've got a lightening rod like Subban in the room guess where that bolt is going to hit? There wasn't another player in that room save for Price with whom you could have sent a more profound message than the one delivered by the trading of Subban.

The only messages I saw were, don't have a personality, and ensure any time you sign long term, ensure NMC for entire contract.
