GDT - Rebound vs. the Wild | 8:00PM EST TSN4

The team hasn't been great defensively, but .874 is a pretty ugly save percentage.

Looks like we can score plenty, if we get even average goaltending we'll win a lot more nights than last year.

Our team defense is horrible at times.

Growing pains for the young guys sure but our defense is pretty bad.

and this is exactly what bothers me most - poor goaltending leads to blaming the rest of the team even when overall they've been quite good.

Auston Matthews - GP 4, G 5, A 1, Pts 6
William Nylander - GP 4, G 1, A 4, Pts 5
Mitch Marner - GP 4, G 1, A 1, Pts 2

Not bad for the big-3 so far.

Kind of funny the numbers are the way they are though---I think Marner's been the best of the three.

That's largely because Babs put him with Bozak and JVR who have both been quite shit this season so far.

That play where Matthews tipped the puck twice out of the air and off the bar was sick. He's so ****ing good.

would love to see Marner with Naz and leo

we can call the JVR-Bozak-Michalek the TradeDead Line.

Sure. I think they picked it up a bit as the game went on. And hey, they're one of the highest scoring lines in hockey so maybe I should be more patient.

you guys are funny. you know we aren't making the playoffs right? smile and watch the kids, but a 75-80 pt season would be a great result

He almost won it for us yesterday in OT and almost tied it up today. We're super lucky to have him. And he just turned 19.

That move would be nice for Naz and Mitch. Saves Mitch from having to carry JVR & Bozak, gives Kadri someone else on his line that can create offense, and Mitch still fits in fine with the tenacious, puck possession style of that line.

If you do that though, I think you also have to break up Bozak & JVR somehow. That's just too much possession suckage on one line, especially without Marner to help them out.

The defense is bad. I don't know what some are smoking here. Blaming the goalie for consistent breakaways/ 2on1 rushes floors me every time. I can go back and count minimum 2 goals Andersen had zero chance on yesterday because the defense wasn't there. Using sv% this early in the season is a convenient use of the stat considering the stat-junkies that live on this board.

too bad there isn't a stat that tells you how often a defenseman leaves his goalie out to dry.

I think Babcock sees what Bozak/JVR are.

pretty annoyed at Jake's usage though.

how many times did the Wild leave their goalie out to dry?

Oh look, with the improvement of the Matthews line late in the game, came an improvement in their corsi. Who'd a thunk it? Such a brilliant tool to use. Yes it's hard to read too much into 40-60% guys over one game, but when a guy is 30%, odds are he's not having a very good game. It's pretty common sense.

And Zaitsev has been at that number or worse far too often. Yes, he's saddled with Hunwick but still.. Babcock is relying on him far too much.
