OT: American Politics

months, years, decades....the election will always have been stolen.

you and i both know it.

and he sold you out to boot.

sad.

Nobody has mentioned these way to contain China. Just repeating there are ways isn't much of a strategy.

Support regional rivals like Japan and India, bring the Chinese to the table in trade deals to open up their economy to other nations, maintain a carrier battle group or two in the region and let them maintain their fantasy about Taiwan one day bring under their thumb again.

Still can't get over the fact that when a possible war with China (or an economic collapse in China) comes up in the conversation, both of which would serve no positive purpose and instead lead to serious instability and hardship around the world and in the US (with inevitably negative consequences for Canada), some people are like meh, whatevs, they need a kick in the teeth anyway. And aren't joking.

Let's just stop and take a second to admire the sheer level of disconnect from reality it requires to take a position like that.

There are whispers of a private debt crisis in China. We know about the demographic problems.

Like all full blown or quasi dictatorships, the challenge is creating a liberal, inclusive economic order out of a kleptocracy and corruption. It utterly failed in Russia. Now, China has been a lot smarter than the KGB thugs. The question is whether China is willing to be a consumer of imports, and not just the sweat shop of the world. It won't be easy, I suspect there are a lot of powerful vested interests that will resist.

Oh, and the consequences of a military confrontation with China are bonkers. Incalculable.

We need to understand this: China and India are superpowers. It's delusional to suggest otherwise.

You are acting as if we have never been to war with china before.

Meh. Whatever folks.

Trump has 3 retired generals in his cabinet, two of them marines, with a possible 4th in petraeus along with the joint chiefs. The GOP wants to get friendly with Taiwan and Trump wants to get tough on China.

I have more confidence in my worldview being heard in the white house than yours.

Everyone is going to be thinking like a soldier.

The idea that a Trump led White House would plunge the US into a long, costly, and quite frankly disastrous war? Yeah, i have no trouble seeing that. In fact I wouldn't bet against it.

But even if the administration shares your view, that doesn't do anything to change the fact that a war with China is bat shit nuts.

And if it's a successful war?
