Re: Bruins Series Thread (no not a gameday threat), featuring too many stats.

doesn't JVR historically have very good playoff numbers?

but thanks for putting the time into that zeke. good read, and I definitely did not realize just how evenly matched the teams are.

Re: Bruins Series Thread (no not a gameday threat), featuring too many stats.

What was our lineup against the caps last year again?

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Komarov-Kadri-Brown?
JVR-Bozak-Marner
????-Boyle-Kapanen

Rielly-Hunwick
Jake-Carrick
Marincin-????

(post Zaits & Polak injuries)

Re: Bruins Series Thread (no not a gameday threat), featuring too many stats.

Is it just me, or does this feel like the most anticipated playoff series ever? Two great teams and fierce rivals who have no business squaring off in the first round doing just that, with the 2013 collapse looming large. I've been giddy all week.

Re: Bruins Series Thread (no not a gameday threat), featuring too many stats.

ok so my key to the series:

babs must play the living shit out of the matthews line.

A lot of work, I could have just told you we're winning in five.

(Ron Howard's narrating voice)

"He didn't"

I'm very, very concerned that he's going to overplay Leo, Polak, Hainsey, and Zaitsev while underplaying Auston, Mitch, Willy, Rielly.

Re: Bruins Series Thread (no not a gameday threat), featuring too many stats.

Footspeed isn't normally an issue for the Bruins D (Carlo and Miller are not slow), but I think McQuaid will have difficulty keeping up with us. Hopefully we can capitalize.

Re: Bruins Series Thread (no not a gameday threat), featuring too many stats.

While I expect some of our strength is rolling four lines, I wonder if all that even ice time was precisely so there is lots in the tank now.

This is my hope. My brain tells me, however, that Babs will do much the same or even worse in terms of ice time distribution in the playoffs.

Oh, for the record, ME has the best gif usage.

I read a story on TSN where Babs was talking about how our depth is a strength and he'd love to roll four lines. He did say how the fourth line plays will determine how much ice they get, but yeah. I don't think he sees things the way you do.

I'm probably somewhere in between Babs and you.

So yeah, 18 minutes a night for Leo.

ummmmmm
you guys better not get out coached

cassidy is a better tactical coach imo

Babs has two blindspots imo

1) His security blanket "gud pro" players. They play "the right way" and regardless of outcomes they produce or mistakes they make that lead to goals against, they get a near infinite amount of rope from Babcock. If he overplays them, we're simply not playing our best players enough.

2) He line matches like it's an OCD tick. There were some good numbers posted here a some weeks back showing that his line match was actually having a detrimental effect on the team. They showed that we were actually getting better results on the road than we were at home. We were a better hockey team when Babcock wasn't able to dictate matchups. I don't think line matching is bad at all, but the evidence we have suggests that he's a bit too zealous about it.

I don't know much about Cassidy beyond how his usage breaks down and what his line combos look like, and it looks like he does a lot right imo. Plays the shit out of his top line, seems to balance the other 3 lines. Has a bit of a blind spot for his gud pros, but his gud pros are mostly veteran 40+ point forwards (Nash, Backes, Nash) so I kind of get it.

Re: Bruins Series Thread (no not a gameday threat), featuring too many stats.

Babcock specifically said he was not going to try matching lines, so there's that.

If he said it, I believe that he'll try but like most coaches as soon as there's adversity to face he's going to have a hell of a time avoiding the use of his personal psychological security blankets.

Re: Bruins Series Thread (no not a gameday threat), featuring too many stats.

I don't have as big of a problem with his reliance on experience as you guys do. Yeah I'd like to see Johnsson in, but at the same time, it's human nature to trust people who have been around longer, done it before.

The good thing is, next season a bunch of "boys," will be gud pros.

Let's see how Komarov looks, see what Babcock does, he hasn't screwed things up yet.

Re: Bruins Series Thread (no not a gameday threat), featuring too many stats.

And maybe he's saving some rooks from the insanity that will be game 1 on the road.
