OT: American Politics

Billy Bush had a great story about Donald Trump claiming his Apprentice was #1 in the ratings when it was actually 37th on Bill Maher's show.
I even recall Trump on Howard Stern's show claiming it was #1 when it started to slip and a CBS exec. called in and went nuts.

It's never been about facts or reality to Trump, it's been about how many people can he fool with his bullshit. He used to fool banks with his bullshit until they caught on that he was poison. Then he moved to reality TV and fooled the morons into believing he was a business mogul.

And then he conquered the most powerful country in the world. Its actually nuts. As far as conmen go he's one of the goats.

Yep.

I think conditions were just right for a legitimate conman to come through to do this. Decades of political stratification between the two major parties and within them, a culture that has trended further and further away from critical thought and towards celebrity worship. A news media that doesn't challenge power, and needs mountains of eye catching material to fill their 24 hr news cycle. What racism and sexism there is in the country being stoked by a black president leaving office and his successor being a woman with 25 years of political baggage.

But yeah, absolutely. Trump is a first ballot HOF grifter. As much as it sucks to deal with all of this (even from the cheap seats north of their border), I'm pretty confident that history will look at him as exactly that. Here's hoping that it turns into America's intervention on itself, where they remember what actually made America great once upon a time and get back towards innovating and building a better future.

100%. All you can hope for is that this is the turning point and the response is Americans coming together. And it just might be that. The fringes are as polarizing as ever, but there seems to be a lot of reasonable people in the middle that are having important conversations across party lines. For example, the women's march, the students, metoo, the response to Charlottesville. The idiots have the loudest voices, but I don't think they have the support.

The sitting US President is going to be sued by a Porn Star for defamation. She has a better (much better) lawyer than the sitting President. She also has a great chance of winning her suit.

This is real life.

Stormy Daniels plans to sue Donald Trump for defamation after the president called a forensic sketch of a man who allegedly threatened her a “total con job.”

Daniels’ attorney, Michael Avenatti, vowed to file the defamation claim “in short order” following a hearing in Los Angeles federal court on Friday.

Where this suit is going to be interesting is that it will set precedent on the liability involved in Trump defaming via tweet. If Stormy wins, who else jumps out of the woodwork that has been defamed by Presidential tweet over the last 18 months?

Amazon? Amazon shareholders? CNN? Basically anyone Trump has called a liar who wasn't actually lying?

This could tie up the courts for decades.

The suit is a farce. It’s about fundraising. It could backfire too because now the DNC could get inundated with discovery requests themselves.

I wouldn’t pin your hopes on this garbage suit. I would like to see them try to serve Putin though, pure gold.

Is anyone in either party involved in governing the country or is the only interest in unseating Trump. I'm thinking that as important as the "Trump problems" may be, there must be other important or urgent matters that need to be attended to. I thought I heard something about talks between North and South Korea and the US.

I might be wrong though because any time I check in on American news broadcast all I seem the hear is 24 hr. discussions about Trump and his problems.

So you're suggesting that Trumps "problems" (which is an interesting way of framing a bunch of actions that make him legally, and morally unfit for office) should be ignored because...he's the guy you want dealing with north korea?

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A federal judge on Friday signaled possible shortcomings in a request by Donald Trump’s personal lawyer to delay adult-film actress Stormy Daniels’ lawsuit over her alleged affair with the U.S. president, but stopped short of putting it on hold.

At a hearing in Los Angeles federal court, U.S. District Judge James Otero said he needed more time to review Cohen’s and Trump’s request to put Daniels’ case on hold for 90 days.

But the judge told Cohen’s lawyer Brent Blakely that “there’s some gaping holes” in the request for a stay.

The best people.

I just listened to that "John Barron" tape. LOL. I can't believe a grown man would do that.
He really liked the name Barron as he later named his son that name.

Put John Barron on the stand and see what he says about Russia. He seems to know things.

The positive actions coming out of North Korea smell way too fishy as well...
KJU has been the aggressor his whole life, and all.of a sudden, he chooses to.tell people that "we no longer need to test our weapons ". Trump still is talking about meeting etc...all in the middle of the shit storm.

My take....KJU is getting all his nukes from mother Russia and Putin is basically telling him to play nice to the US for a bit to keep some positive news for the dotard.

Is the nuclear/missile test promise really such a positive thing?

The thing is, there's a pretty big difference between "we don't need to do any more nuclear tests" and "we're willing to get rid of our nuclear weapons".

What North Korea is really claiming here is that they believe their ballistic missile/nuclear tech has advanced to the point where they're satisfied with the range & accuracy of their weapons, and they don't need any more refinement.

Absolutely not, Korean talks are just an example of limited or no coverage of issues other than 27-7 rehashing of the Trump's problems. Trump's legal and personality problems are important but surely there are other news issues.

It just might be easier to take if newscasters and commentators didn't show such glee over each new and old revelation. Wherever, if that is what keeps the ratings up, go for it.

North Korea was the first Trump related story in the front section of Saturday's Globe.

I think you're just creating your own narrative here.
