The ****ing Offseason Thread 2018

Weber was so what we needed against Boston

Totally. He skates good on crutches, which is probably the same state he’ll be in next year at this time, and the next seven years after that. And if not, he’ll skate like he is anyway.

I have to wonder why babcock never ever put any of his more talented players on the pk.
In my opinion? The penalty kill is a teachable/coachable aspect where you would want you fastest and most talented players partaking.
I think having matthews and kadri on the ice more would be an asset.
Hyman and brown are really good hounds and serve a purpose but talent wins you games and having the opps a little intomidated by your ability to take off and score is anotjer avenue to improve mho

Funny..... the games i watched he was easily as mobile as polak and hainsey..... must be a different weber

It's not a 1 guy fix. they need multiple upgrades.

It’s not a one guy fix, but you can only bring in one major core guy, and then fill in the blanks with lesser guys.

For me, it’s Tavares. If we had another Matthews to show up for the one that didn’t this series, maybe we took it. But I way, way prefer to upgrade Bozak more than anyone else this year, even Gardiner. And I want to keep Willy on the wing with Matthews. And you pretty much never get a chance to add this kind of player for just money. Sign him, move Kapanen and Johnsson into the lineup as fixtures, and maybe trade Gardiner plus for a D upgrade or I don’t even mind keeping him and just signing or trading for some older vet to stabilize things back there, and push Hainsey down and Polak out finally.

Or you could get a guy like Carlson and move Gardiner down or out, and then fill in the center spot with Bozak again or a guy like Thornton. I still don’t think this is the way to go, especially if it means bringing a JVR-less Bozak back. I think we could upgrade just by reconfiguring the D. Play Dermott with Rielly, Gardiner with Zaitsev, and Borgman with Hainsey. I think too much Hainsey and Polak were a big problem in this series that somehow got overshadowed.

Unless you are willing to part with nylander or marner or matthews ... you aint getting squat from no one.
Lilly and a first (twenty something pick) might get you a sniff at a 3rd or forth dman but nothing more.

Gardiner did all those bombs on his own. He had outlet passes available but kept choosing the bomb or the opps.
He reminds me of greyhounds beautiful to watch, can run loke the wind but dumber than dirt

If you read my post i said if montreal took half of the contract back and martin which would mean we are paying basically 3 million a season

Tavares i agree with
Carlson i dont.
The leafs do need someone with a big shot from the point but that can be a forward too

For a couple of years. You’re free of Martin in two years - so that’s $2.5m free money that you reinvest in an aging and declining Weber for another five after that. And Montreal never agreed to eat $3m for seven years on a guy they just traded PK for, so it’s not even realistic.

As I said, I don’t want to be locked into an older, immobile player like that long term for any money.

And what’s all this stuff about needing a point shot so bad that people keep saying?

Did our offense have trouble this year? Was our PP bad? It’s a nonissue.

I also partially agree with zeke.
I think we need 2 dmen. One to replace polak because the more i think of it, the more i would rather a kid (other than carrrick) being carried as a 6th 7th dman.
And a big tough defence first guy for reilly.
If toronto had chara with reilly we win that series. But that is just me

It is just another option that would be available. As we have seen this year ro many goals is not a bad thing

OK, seriously Bolduke, **** off with the Weber shit.

Re-hashing that discussion is really not how we should be starting the off-season.

Weber is still pretty much a perfect fit, price pending.

spending $8m on a guy like Carlson, who doesn't even face top competition, and whose PP production is largely redundant here, seems an odd fit to me.
