The REAL Standings

The left side of that MTL D is atrocious. Simply awful. It needs to be addressed this off-season.

I wanted Markov resigned for 2 years last season, he is still playing well in the KHL and this would have been his final season. Bergevin dropped that ball.

montreal's far from perfect, but they're ok.

Domi/Gallagher/Danault/Tatar/Drouin/Kotkaniemi are all legit good top 6 guys - crucially all of them are very good skaters and mostly gritty too - and guys like byron and lehkonen give some depth beyond that too.

Weber has become underrated. still a #1 imo. And Petry is a good #2. Benn is a decent enough #5 probably. the other three are kind of poopy, though. Did Mete implode or something?

Still, that's enough with a good coach to be decent.

well, Price has to be better. They can't keep getting away with that poor goaltending.

Montreal had lost 13 of 20 games before they won two in a row against Ottawa.

Montreal will likely beat Chicago on Sunday, but after that the losses will likely start to pile up again.

Losing an opening round to Tampa in 4 or 5 games is the worst possible outcome for this team. But i'm not worried they were playing like shit for over a month until they ran into Ottawa.

I suspect they will finish bottom 10.

FYI - Benn is terrible.

All the D you mentioned are RD. Our complete left side is crap.

Price is finally at .900 after spending most of the season sub .900. I hope his rise in sv % continues. Some of it is on him and some on the D. Yes Montréal is “okay”. They’re a middling team and that’s not where we fans want them obviously.

As for Mete, his fall from grace was mostly self-Inflicted. He is back in Laval trying to find his game again.

I have high hopes for our prospect Josh Brook but again, he’s a RD.

I think Mete will be a decent 2nd pairing guy someday, but he hasn't been good this year and was sent down.

Juulsen has been a lot better... and I believe he returns tomorrow.

Smoke and mirrors?

They seem to have a decent team on paper. Still not sold on the Sabres goaltending though.

I don't know about that. They built themselves a buffer. Sure they've lost 5 straight but if they play .500 for the rest of the season they would have 90 points. It'll likely take 97 points to make the wild card so that means they have to play 7 games over .500. It's doable for them.

So Since Weber's return the Habs have allowed 2 goals or less in 5 of 6 games and Price's SV% is at a .920 over that stretch. Coincidence?

Put the pipe down.

eh, we've been over this a few times. Weber's contract makes him close to a negative asset. and anyways, Bergevin won't deal him to the Leafs; and if he does, it will be for "full value" (I don't see how he could survive the media meltdown any other way...)

I would only want Weber if Montreal is retaining a heap of salary too, and that is also not going to happen.

plus, the little smurfs that could are probably convincing Bergy to stay the course instead of going for the full rebuild.

full disclosure though that proposal was made with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek. but if I'm being honest, I would probably not be willing to part with much more in the way of assets to inherit Weber's contract.

and just because you keep saying that does not make it true
