OT: American Politics

also interesting that Trump doesn't get more than 41 percent against any of them. even no name Mayor Pete.

I'm no Biden fan, but he's fine, and if he has the balls to bring Warren along as VP, then that should shore up his base on the left (ironically much more than the black woman Kamala would), and that's a ticket that's worth voting for a very large part of the political spectrum.

This is actually pretty important. One of Hillary's numerous mistakes was in bringing a "random guy in a suit" as her veep. Bring someone with actual cache among the progressives and she probably manages to win. Kaine didn't even bring his home state with him ffs. In an election that close, a decent veep pick might have tipped the balance.

Fox News Poll

yeah polls are just polls, but that's pretty impressive by Biden - and certainly feeds into the narrative that voters in 2020 are just exhausted from the drama and want a comfortable old slipper to pull on.

what's even more convincing about this is that Biden is so well known - both for his good and bad - that this isn't the case of a fad canditate, either.

Biden wouldn't bring along Warren. Whoever his running mate is will be expected to be the frontrunner for 2024 as Biden would either directly or indirectly run with a promise to only serve 1 term. So he'll almost certainly name one of the younger members.

Not really surprising though. I was making the argument a year or so ago that Trump's support was 1) historically low 2) probably not going higher & 3) The reason that any functioning democrat without Hillary's baggage dummies him in a general.

He's not impressive in debates, his old campaign slogans aren't bringing in new followers, and the majority are tired of him and his 41% coalition of the willing. Shit, I could see the evangelicals turn on him if the right Republican challenged him. He's gotten them their stacked court and put them in the position to challenge Roe. They don't really believe he's godly, they'd willingly align with satan himself to achieve their political goals.

Biden wouldn’t be my first choice but at this point I think almost all of top 10 Democrats are better than Trump. Hopefully a lot of the people who stayed home or pulled a Habsy last time have had the last year change their mind on the “both of them are bad” argument.

eh. that's never happened.

Looks like a deal has been reached on steel tariffs between Canada and the USA, and I'm assuming USA Mexico as well.

Trump is winning again. I think we all need to come to the realization that this is a strong possibility. Never underestimate the stupidity of those down south.

the south will vote for him again. that's not the issue.

the rust belt, which he won by an hilariously tiny and unlikely margin, is what's important.

Yeah, he won Michigan by like 13,000? There’s no way he wins again there, IMO, against any semi-competent opposition.

You might be right.

But either way, I fear this will end badly. Women as second class citizens, or potentially violence.

As a father of two girls and a grandfather of one I really don’t want to see them being told what to do with their bodies. I still don’t understand how parents could support this sort of thing. The religious zealots aren’t remembering Christ’s teachings; he never “enforced” anything on anyone, he taught and he guided. As a Christian it offends me that they’re trying to force this in the name of God. I seriously don’t think God would approve. How do they on one hand teach “free will” given to us by God then turn around and take away free will on abortion? If it is a “sin” then just let God sort it out in the end.

I will vote Biden if Sanders or Warren aren’t on the ticket. I don’t thing they will be. He should pick Buttigieg.

Yeah, I completely get the instinct to believe the worst, that this insanity will go on for another 4 year term but there's some important shit to understand here:

- Trump won by a razor, razor thin margin in reality. A complete electoral outlier.

- Trump was polling at 43.6% leading up to the election. He hasn't been above 43% since March of 2017, and has spent more time below 42% than above it since.

- The polls weren't wrong, didn't lie, weren't fake news or any such bullshit. Trump was polling at 43.6% and ended up at 46.1% of the vote. Which seems like a big gap, but Hillary was polling at 46.8% and ended up at 48.1%. Undecideds actually showing up and voting pushes the numbers higher.

- The most striking change in the polling since the election is the disapproval ratings. Approval ratings have dropped a bit, but disapproval ratings have gone from 41% to 53%, but has been as high as 56% recently. At this point in his presidency, Trump has the highest disapproval rating in modern polling history (since Truman)

2 termers disapproval as of day 848:

Obama: 42.9%
Bush II: 27.9%
Clinton: 40.4%
Reagan: 44.8%

He's DOA with a small chance of the Dems snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. He probably knows it as well, so look for him to try to make moves to cripple the ability of the government to investigate him before and after he's out of office. Also look for him to do everything possible to stack the electoral deck in 2020, his freedom is legitimately on the line here.

Your country is in legit political crisis mode because of one guy and you won't vote him out based on the veep pick?

Come on.

See your problem is that you believe in the wrong Jesus. You believe in hippy liberal Jesus instead of righteous Republican Jesus.

Hippy liberal Jesus is pretty cool. If Christians just did what Jesus said in the bible I’d probably be okay with them.

They rarely do and it’s gross. Jesus needs gold leaf icons in churches and crosses of precious metals and jewels? He pointed at people and said “you will obey”? I think not.

Like Muslims denounce Islamist extremism Christians need to denounce this crap, it’s a form of terrorism.
