I dont think they got much in return for Shaw. It was also a salary dump and of course the Habs know his medical status better than anyone. They probably didn't like what the future holds, you can only take so many concussions.

According to Forbes the #Habs made $90 million at the gate, operating income $102 million.

Canes $27 million at the gate, -$3.9 operating income.

Dundon does not like to spend, and his team makes zero money...this week will be a hard one to guess what will happen.

Yep...by sell high i meant salary dump at the right time

It’s a years gate to pay Aho this year

Dundon would be paying out of his own pocket for one player

Ward thinks giving Aho an AAV of 10 mil would have gotten it done for the Habs

And I think that 10 gets it done not just because of the salary but because of the second 1st rounder.

I've heard conflicting stories. Can the Habs/Canes negotiate different compensation now?

The Canes and Habs Likely To Continue to Talk Trade
This all makes a trade very possible...The two teams can talk trade over the next week, but if the Canes match then no trade can happen for a year...The Habs were talking trade and now made it much more enticing for the Canes to move that contract.

The Carolina Hurricanes brought in 27 million at the gate last season.

They just bought out Marleau for 6.5 Million and have to pay Aho 21 million in first year.
So minus 500k to start the season off.

They lost 3.9 million last year with a total cap of 62 million.

Currently paying 58.8 for 15 players. Aho pushes that to 67 million and still 7 players to fill out the roster.

Yes Carolina should match, but Montreal might be the reason Quebec see’s a team again if the Canes do match.

An interesting part of GM M.Bergevin's presser here today in MTL: said Aho wants to join the Canadiens. Not sure how the Canes will now feel about a player who openly talked about wanting to leave.

Sign him and trade him to Winnipeg, then everyone will learn a lesson..lololol

So we probably will be icing the same team as last year with maybe the addition of a young guy or two. Should be fighting for the last playoff spot with the Leafs

What TSN isn't keying on is this - Habs don't think offering Aho $10.5M AAV instead of $8.5M would have mattered to Carolina...the signing bonus couldn't have been any higher, and it's the $21M over 12 months that Habs hope makes Dundon hesitate.
