OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

The 2yr deal allows Kawhi to set himself up for the supermax. He'll stay close to home. Toronto will always be a fun thing he did one year.

Great post

I think the biggest issue with top USA talent not coming here in UFA is they have no ties to Canada

Euros , with other nations most likely have some family ties to Canada

We can attract the Brogdan`s of the world but why bother overpaying support pieces .

Americans are also notorious for being homebodies. Half of them don't even have passports. Completely different vibe from Euros, who can't drive 2 hrs without hitting another country/culture/language.

Vince signed an extension to stay when he could have bolted as a free agent.

So we've had 2 elite players. One of them came in trade after asking to be traded to LA, and he went to LA a year later in free agency. The other signed an extension to stay when he could have bolted in free agency.

If we're taking a step down from that, T-Mac has gone on for over a decade about how he wanted to go home but that was a mistake (Tmac was not elite at the time he left), Bosh left a joke of an organization after getting recruited by Lebron, Demar stayed, Kyle stayed.

A step down further? Mighty Mouse played every game in a raptors uniform in the ****ing Skydome.

3 elite player's.

You're missing Lowry.

Rightly or wrongly, Kyle has never been considered an "elite" player. Yes, I'm aware that the metrics love him to death, yes I'm aware that he was just the starting PG for a 'chip team. But he's also been considered, at best, to be a B level star. You and I both know that during the Trash Bros era, Demar was considered to have the upside of the schwartz and Kyle, the downside of the schwartz.

It was dumb and wrong to think that, but it was definitely the perception.

A Raptors executive (not Masai) on Terence Davis. "Hell of a player. He's another one (referring to some of the franchise's recent finds like Fred VanVleet)." They had him ranked in Top 35 of draft prospects. Moved fast to sign him after his breakout Summer League game.

apparently Davis was approached by a whole bunch of team as a 2nd round pick, but he thought he was better than that and told them he wouldnt sign because it would give the team too many years of control over him (especially vis a vis sticking him in the G league instead of giving him an NBA shot).

honestly some of his vids are eye popping. offensively and defensively. he's fast and long and can shoot pretty well. I guess the question with him is whether he actually has the handles to create for himself, and whether he can hit the NBA 3 consistently. Seems like worst case he's another Norm, best case he's the player we all thought Norm was turning into a couple years ago.

I do kinda think somehow masai managed to pick up two first round caliber talents this year - albeit late first round talents.

Anyone know what the EXTRAS uncle Dennis wanted where we wouldn't comply ?

One of them we know is trade demands for other players to be added. Sense is the Raps management team is furious with how Uncle Dennis conducted business throughout the process

yeah Masai really stammered a bit when asked if he thought the other side was honest. "Kawhi was" was the best he could do.

And Masai ain't the stammering type.

Whatever man it's done. **** both Kawhi and his uncle, they are the enemy now. Raps going to move on and be back in the big show soon enough.

I'll be happy if they don't win in LA> Clippers gave up so much to have that happen. Raptors gave up so little and got a title.

I don’t see why any Raptors fan would want the Clippers to win or do well.

The better the Raptors play in relation to the Clippers, the better it looks on all the returning champions that are still here. Kawhi may have been our best player, but a lot of Raptors played their guts out and were important too.

Plus, they’re not the Lakers, but the Clippers are *******s too with their relentless stalking and tampering campaign last season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to trade Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets for Chris Paul, first-round picks in 2024 and 2026, pick swaps in 2021 and 2025, league sources tell ESPN.
