OT: American Politics

I like Warren slightly better but would still be pretty pleased if Kamala won.

Suspect there’ll be a lot of people saying stuff like “she’s too shrill”, “she seems like a bitch”, “I just don’t like her personality for some reason” and other junk that seems to be said about female candidates constantly.

It was more of an "owning the racists" ask. In the same vein as "owning the libs", except I wouldn't support a complete train wreck just to do so. Harris would be a capable President I think and would drive the nutters absolutely batshit.

Maybe that's part of it, but I think it's largely that they don't really think women are people in their own right.

I think these men are damned if they do, damned if they dont.

If these guys were alone with a woman and the woman came out and said that there was sexual harassment, we would believe the woman most likely.

When they say that they don't want to be alone with a woman who isn't their wife, they get heat for that as well.

Would we actually though? Are there any consequences?

This whole idea that with the MeToo movement society automatically believes one or two women over men in positions of power is kinda crazy to me because that was kinda the whole point of the movement - that there seemed to be very few consequences until women came out in massive numbers.

Cosby, Nassar, Weinstein and Epstein have like 500 accusers between them. But if you have under 30, you can probably keep running for Senate, sit on the Supreme Court or be POTUS.

Like I said, there are consequences if you're a democrat/liberal. Al Franken had 1 accuser. Louis CK jerked off awkwardly in front of a small handful of semi willing viewers/participants. Aziz had the audacity of banging a pick up "awkwardly". All suffered pretty significant consequence for their transgressions. If you're powerful enough to flip the mob the middle finger and keep it moving though, there's no real consequence.

In other news though...Zeke was wrong

There is one fiscal conservative left. Rand Paul

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate...mpensation-fund?amp&__twitter_impression=true

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Wednesday blocked an attempt by Democrats to pass an extension of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) tried to win the Senate's consent to approve the House-passed bill, which would reauthorize funding until fiscal 2090. The bill cleared the House in a 402-12 vote last week.

But Paul objected, pointing to the country's growing debt and arguing that any new spending should be offset by cuts to other spending.

"It has long been my feeling that we need to address our massive debt in the country," he said. "And therefore any new spending ... should be offset by cutting spending that's less valuable. We need to, at the very least, have this debate."

Funny story though....he did vote for the Trump tax cuts (after some grandstanding) which of course were not offset by anything, anywhere and are a massive future financial burden that does nothing but juice the stock market a bit through extensive buy backs, and make foreign super yacht manufacturers smile a bit wider.

Just don't sexually harass anyone and they'll be fine.

Not always.

There are false/questionable accusations. Ghomeshi for one. Patrick Brown another. Erin Weir is another iffy one

And its not limited to politicians.

A stunning 60% of male managers said they’re uncomfortable mentoring, working one-on-one, and socializing with women at work, according to a survey released Friday morning by LeanIn.org, the women’s advocacy group founded by Facebook executive Sheryl Sandberg.

That’s an increase from last year, when 46% of male managers said they were uneasy working with women after several prominent men lost their jobs over sexual misconduct claims.

In this year’s survey, men also said they were much more likely to hesitate to travel or have dinner with a junior woman for work.

That argument really doesn't make sense. Statistically speaking women are at a much higher risk of being sexually harassed then men are of being falsely accused.

Any argument against men and women being alone together really isn't for the protection of men.

But yes, male employers shouldn't be taking female employees on dates "for work". Thats probably a positive development.

This was the one predictable result of #metoo moving on from obvious sexual predators like Cosby and Weinstein to guys much further down the scale who may just make people uncomfortable by talking too close or being too forward.

Some men are just not going to want to be alone with women.

You're not wrong, but I'm not at all surprised that some men look around and think "if I'm left alone with her and she says I did something even if I didn't who would believe me? "

There are consequences.

Erin Weir is about to lose his job as a MP

Ghomeshi lost his job at the CBC

Patrick Brown should be premier today, not Doug ****ing ford.

As for work dates, men will continue to take other men on work dates. Talk shop over dinner. Women are just getting cut off from upper management

Those men are pussies. Just treat women like human beings and you'll be fine. The odds that you will get falsely accused of sexual harassment are very low. Driving is way more dangerous.

However, the odds of your behaviour making women uncomfortable because you don't treat them as humans...well thats why there is a metoo movement.
