OT: American Politics

Yeah i think a solid majority would rally against naked racism in the white house.

America has always been a racist country, its just accepted, baked into the discussion. If one guy is running saying I'll give you jobs, and the other is running on that dude is a racist, the guy promising jobs is going to win.

If Black America does not come out and make sure Trump is not re-elected they will be in trouble...how long do we all think "dem mexicans" will be the main focus of whitey's hate?

Black Americans had a black president for 8 years.

I don't think they got shot by police any less or climbed out of poverty any more.

Don't think that line is going to work on them.

But start giving them like healthcare so the don't go bankrupt when they are sick and make post secondary affordable to they can get a quality education... Real tangible ways to get ahead and that might work.

Because here is a secret about black communities. They think all politicians are either racist or indifferent. Trump didn't move the needle there.

The underlying numbers show African Americans are doing better economically under Trump than Obama. The ones that show out to vote will still overwhelmingly vote Democrat however I think the turnout will not be what they might expect. That is unless Kamala Harris is the candidate.

I tend to agree with the argument Zeke linked. If you shy away from addressing it head on, you normalize it. That doesn't mean that you only talk about Trump's racism, but you don't avoid talking about it, or forcing him into answering for (which will of course lead him to double or triple down and say even more ridiculous shit than he's said before). The numbers involved are pretty simple. Trump needs the middle to bleed hard in his direction to top 43-44% in popular vote. His base is going to show up to vote, and it's important for the Democrats to push some emotional buttons to get their base and the mushy middle types who just aren't interested in voting Trump, to the polls.

True, but voters will still credit Trump.

Surely that would be baked in by now? His favourability numbers still suck to a pretty historic degree.

And unless the economy suddenly tanks Trump will have the economy to campaign on.

Apparently his talk of a booming economy polls like shit with most of his base. Because, well...for them it isn't booming.

Irrelevant.

Incumbent gets credited by the layman, you know that.

The credit doesn't not exist for years and then show up at the election. That's not how public sentiment works. So if he's receiving credit for it, the credit is already baked in.

My favorite Wall Street guru on Warren

Her plan to deal with Private Equity would result in a sort of economic napalm, burning away every loophole and unfair advantage these funds have and disintegrating their profitability into ash.

Like a skilled acupuncturist, she knows all the pressure points. Even if you disagree with her violently negative view of finance, you have to admit that she understands and articulates how it works, and how it fails, better than anyone else who has ever run for President.

In a world where Warren becomes the Democratic nominee for President, you would see the entirety of the financial services lobby work furiously to reelect President Trump (and, by extension, Mick Mulvaney), who have done more to deregulate the sector in two and a half years than any President (and advisor) in modern history, including Bill Clinton and Robert Rubin in the mid 90’s.
