2019 Carolina Hurricanes Off Season Thread

Elliotte Friedman tweeted the last of the arbitration filings. Anton Forsberg is all that the Canes have. Canes offered $700k/$70k, Forsberg asked for $833k. He’s coming off a 2 year, 1 way contract that had a $750k cap hit but his actual in 2018-19 was $800k. If he gets awarded a 1 way deal, I expect the Canes to walk away.

A couple of pretty big gaps to bridge. Joel Edmundson asked for $4.2 million, Blues offering $2.3 million. He’s coming off a 1 year/$3 million contract and put up 11 points in 64 games and 8 points in 22 playoff games. Jake McCabe asked for $4.3 million, Slugs offering $1.95 million. He’s coming off a 3 year/$4.8 million contract.

I agree, if Forsberg gets awarded a one way deal the Canes will walk away for sure, no need to pay a third goaltender a one way contract especially when you want to send a message to Ned that he will get a legit chance to be the backup in the Fall. Canes are up too tight against the cap already to throw away $800K on a guaranteed one way deal to a goalie that may end up being slated fourth on the depth chart.

Agreed. No way they want to waste money on a depth goalie who isn't a real prospect to be a starter in this lifetime.

Former Cherker Zach Stortini has joined Cory Stillman’s staff in Sudbury as an assistant coach. Blake Murray, drafted by the Canes in the 6th round this year is coming off a 30 goal season for the Wolves. Stortini played 4 seasons in Sudbury from 2001-05 and is the team’s longest serving captain.

Just noting here for those who haven't seen the other thread ... Waddell is still out of contract and has had an in person interview for the open Wild GM's job.

Carry on.

NBC released their national TV schedule. The Canes get their customary 1 game, at Philly on March 5 on NBCSN. It’s late enough in the year that if the Canes aren’t contending, it could probably be swapped out.

For the record ... apparently the train wreck that is the Wild got nine games on NBC. I mean ...

Correction ... TWELVE games, they got. What complete and utter horsecrap.

Forsberg gets a 1 year, 1 way deal for $775k in arbitration. I can’t imagine not buying him out.

Is it not a straight walk away from the Canes if they like which then makes Forsberg an instant UFA?

Apparently, that’s governed by the same $3.5 million minimum for buying a player out. So barring a trade, we’re stuck.

Trevor Carrick to Sharks for Kyle Wood. D for D swap.

Yeah ... Carrick's time here was done. He wasn't getting a shot at the NHL roster so it made sense to let him take a shot with somebody else. Meanwhile, Charlotte needs D so ... fine. Apparently Wood had a decent start in the Sharks organization before stalling out. He and Carrick are pretty similar. Fine.
