The Canes try to right the ship against the surging Panthers.

The 4 game winning streak was snapped with an uneven loss to the Flyers on Thursday. Aho and Teravainen staked the Canes to an early 2-0 lead but they surrendered 3 straight, saw Wallmark pull them even but then gave up 2 more to lose 5-3. Tonight is also the first of a back to back, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see Reimer in goal.

The Panthers have won 3 straight and are 7-2-1 in their last 10. They scored 14 goals in those 3 games and lead the league with an average of 3.68 goals per game. They’re 2nd in the Atlantic with 29 points in 22 games, 4 behind Boston and 2 ahead of Montreal. While they score a lot, they still surrender a lot, despite adding Bob in goal; they’re tied for 28th, allowing 3.50 per game. Canes killer Jonathan Huberdeau, Canes legend Evgenii Dadonov and Brett Connelly each have 10 goals. Barkov has 22 assists, Huberdeau has 20. Bob has been bad, with a 3.47 GAA and .886 save %. Among goalies who have played at least 7 games, his GAA puts him 49th of 51 and tied for 47th in save %. The Panthers are also starting a back to back, they host the Slugs tomorrow afternoon. Maybe we see backup Sam Montembeault. He’s played 6, started 4 and carries a 2.96/.903 stat line.

Tonight is Hockey Fights Cancer night. The Canes will wear special warmup jerseys, black with purple trim and the names of people fighting cancer and survivors in the numbers and captains letters.

Given that Bob has won 3 in a row, I suspect he'll get the net tonight in Raleigh ... but my instincts for these things are decidedly unreliable. I'd start him, put it that way. Florida is weird. I mean, that's true of the State as well as of this team. Quenneville is a noted defensive tactician, but try as he might he can't seem to tighten up the Panthers' D. But he's also a guy with a stupidly high career win percentage, and THAT part of the big paycheck is bringing rewards. The kitties are riding that offense right into contention in the Atlantic ... helped along by sputtering starts by Toronto and Tampa of course. When they win games this season, the Panthers typically pop in 4 or more goals. Only one of their wins has come in a game that a sober man would describe as a defensive battle. My contrarian nature says that Carolina should take advantage of the general need to tighten up their own D by concentrating on that tonight ... but screw it. Carolina has more offensive weapons than Florida, so put the pedal down and let's see some firewagon hockey tonight.

I'm not worried about Florida I'm wondering which of our teams will show. The one that can pass and look exciting or the one that Muffs the softest lobs and puts pucks off their own skates in prime position for the opponent to go right up the ice in good position.

That will have a stronger effect on the game then Florida. and if we give them prime chances they most likely will convert with their prowess.

Be defensively sound.

Let's hope the disappointing loss from Thursday will inspire a different performance from the Canes tonight. Sometimes we play really well against hot teams (just like sometimes we play really poorly against struggling teams).

Dzingel has sucked in his own zone all year but to be that soft on two goals on one shift should earn your ass to be stapled to the bench for at least a full period, just awful.

Please sir, give me another...
looks like the canes came out of hibernation. Hopefully they stay out.

I know we didn't acquire Edmundson for his offense, but he's certainly chipped in there...

Hamilton scores! 3-2.

Hamilton now has as many goals in 23 games as the guy he was traded for had in his All-Star season with us... just sayin'.

Ice has been bad two games straight, busy week in the building overall. Canes need to finish these grade A chances soon, the passing has been good but the finish not so much.

Loved the effort in the third period, I thought Pesce had a beauty of a game overall and Slavin just shuts Barkov down at every turn. Go to Motown and make it a four point weekend.

An immensely entertaining game in the building tonight. The big crowd, the Hockey Fights Cancer stuff and a solid game from our boys when they woke up after giving up the first two made for a great evening!

Is the ice that bad?

Concerts Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, basketball game earlier today.

Pretty sure Dzingel is this year’s recipient of the Bates Battaglia award, given to the to the first forward to skate on all 4 forward lines.

Roddy tried everything short of the fifth line with Dzingel but I would have been ok with him on the fifth line tonight.

Keith Yandle lost 9 teeth last night. He missed all of the 2nd and came back in the 3rd period. He had dental work this morning and is playing now.
