GDT - Game 39 Canadiens @ Panthers - 12/29/19 - 7:00EST

This also falls on Bergevin and Stephane Waite for seemingly being unable to identify NHL calibre goalies that can be signed as a back up. Millions under the cap after botching the Aho offer sheet and the best he can do is Keith Kinkaid. What a joke. Another season down the toilet because they're either too incompetent to find a back up or they're too scared to bruise Price's fragile psyche. On Twitter I was called uninformed for bitching about them saving cap space and that I should look at the long view because there are a lot of great prospects blah blah blah. Given the organization's penchant for screwing up player development, I won't hold my breath.

Plenty of goalies making 5 or less that can start for us right now

Player development takes years if it ever comes to fruition , by that time many of our vets are in decline

At this point it may be wise to start exploring potential offers for Petry & Tatar - focus on loading up for the draft in Mtl.

Yup , Petry should of been moved in the summer coming off his best year

Could of had another Patches type package

Tough decisions have to be made with this bubble team going nowhere

Domi , Gally, Dano, Petry , and Tatar all up for renewal

2 are in their 30`s Gally and Dano will be 29 and 28 on new deals

Look at Benn and Simmonds as examples of power forwards falling off the cliff at 29/30

Retaining them all will cost 8-10 mil more , huge mistake on this middle of the pack roster

2 need to go and Petry and Tatar are the likely choices right now

The other 3 are Nero favs

I don't quite understand the inability or disinterest in getting a quality backup for Price (who in truth shouldn't really need one at that price). Every year Price goes through at least one month or two of questionable play.

Which quality backup was available? Other than Halak (UFA year) is there another backup having a good season? I can’t think of any signed/acquired last summer who are.

Seems to me the real issue is goalie performance expectations vs years past need re-examining - the speed of execution (open East / West passing lanes due to lax penalties & removal of obstruction) and reduction of goalie equipment size has had the desired effect of increasing offense the league wanted.

I still think Price has a recurring nagging injury since the Kreider incident. It’s like that bum knee or shoulder many people get as they age. His lateral movement goes to shit and his agility elsewhere is also compromised.

That said, this isn’t all on Price, the amount of odd man rushes they give up is criminal.

Halak, Talbot, Mrazek, McElhinney were some of the other ones signed. All have been better than Kinkaid.

While that's true, it applies to all the goalies in the league. There is no justification as why Price should be 49th in sv%, 45th in GAA, and 55th in GSAA.

Defense it's not great but it's middle of the pack statistics wise (both shots against and high danger chances against), but goaltending is near the bottom, despite being the team in the league that spends the most on goaltending.

Right or wrong, I think MB rides it as is going into next season and then re-evaluate as the season goes. The way our payroll structure, we currently only have 4 forwards and 3 defensemen needing to be protected for the expansion draft. I'm sure it's not a coincidence.

It's not all on him, but some of it is.

During the 8 game losing streak it was odd man rushes, in the two Florida games it was so many grade A chances in close , point blank.

Cap $ isn`t the issue , spending wisely is key here

I don't see us retaining all 5 players on a bubble team as most head into late 20`s or are in the 30`s

I would prefer not to have another missed opportunity like Markov or Pleks

Its why the time is this deadline to move Tatar and Petry.

and there will be alot of takers...alot of teams in the playoff picture.

My point is I believe he is giving himself flexibility to take advantage of the expansion draft situation. With so few contracts needed to be protected, he will have the occasion to acquire a few contracts for cheap while other teams are struggling to come up with their protection list.

Next year will be very telling for the direction of the team. 5 UFAs, 4 RFAs, some influx of new players like Romanov, Brook and Caufield, maybe a few others, our existing young guys like KK, Suzuki, Poehling, Primeau will have more experience. I think it will become clear during the season who is expandable or not.

I'm expecting Danault, Arnia and Gallagher to be retained while Tatar and Petry will probably move.

I wish we would move away from Price already but that's a whole other story.

While I think he should be traded at deadline while having a good year, I don’t think the Habs will trade Tatar and break up one of the top 5 on 5 lines in the league.

I wish they’d just tank already. This mushy middle crap happening again this year is annoying.

And you wonder why I don't watch the games anymore.

But Tatar won't sell any higher than what he is likely to fetch right now, same goes for armia. Buy low, sell high. They won't do it, but they should.

I wouldn’t trade Armia....why would you wanna trade a big winger with great stick handling, and an awesome wrist shot ? And he’s young

We'd get a great return on Arnia but he's really important on this team that doesn't have any other forward with size.
