OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

I guess you guys think it’s a coincidence that the universe delivered CV to our doorstep after most of you started your silly outcry over wanting Marner traded.

Of the 50 new positive cases announced today, at least nine were related to travel to places such as the U.S., Portugal, Caribbean and the Bahamas, or they are close contacts of other confirmed cases.

Amazing that they haven't cancelled the Olympics yet....I assume that they are likely working on it behind the scenes but I just can't imagine that it would go off.

Chloroquine hope. Tiny study obviously.

I still have some malaria pills I didn't use from a trip a couple years ago. Wonder how much I could get for them on the black market right now?

They'll wait until the last minute to make that decision officially, but I bet internally they're not expecting it to happen.

I think society as a whole is now between 4 and 5

1.denial
2. anger
3. bargaining
4. depression
5. acceptance

Government has to step in and stop that. That offer is merely a window dressing and some will end up in a worse place than before this started

Yep, that's basically my process. Originally figured I'd just wait it out here, much worse places to be stuck than here.

But that was like a week ago, and things have shifted heavily since then. All the airlines are shutting down international flights, and you really have no idea when they might start up again. 2-3 months here? No problem. Stuck here until August or November? Less fun

Things have shifted heavily that’s for sure.

I had a flight back to Canada from Asia scheduled at the end of April.

I took a wait and see approach.

I cancelled it 10 days ago and booked a new flight from Bangkok to Vancouver via Seoul to get back earlier, before the end of March.

2 days after that; NBA/NHL shutdown, and the rest went to a 100 real quick.

My Bangkok-Seoul flight got canceled 4 days ago.

In the meantime the “Political Evacuation” clause in my travel insurance policy as been unlocked and I’m eligible to be repatriated.

Contacted the insurances right away and they found me a flight to Vancouver on March 21st via Taipei.

Yesterday on March 19th at 00:00 Taiwan announce they will bar foreign nationals from entering the country.

There are no direct flights from Bangkok to Canada, and every country in Asia now seem to have some sort of restrictions.

Now I’m stuck until insurances finds a way to repatriate me and I have no idea when that is going to happen.

So if you have the option to fly back home I would think about it long and hard, because that option may disappear real fast, and who knows when this is all going to end.

Even if you don’t have a residence to go back to in Canada, there will be a lot of ressources available to get back on your feet and lots of people willing to help out.

Yeah, I'm flying back on Sunday before Westjet shuts down the rest of their flights from Mexico. While I'd be more comfortable in Mexico than Thailand, I'm definitely not regretting making the decision. Hopefully you can find a way back soon!

The theory that everyone will eventually get it anyways is just beyond malicious and idiotic.

One thing the Brits got right is the stimulus package

UK Govt job retentions scheme will provide employers with a grant covering 80% of salaries for retained workers up to £2,500pm, per worker. All UK employers are eligible, payments backdated to 01 March and scheme to run for an initial period of 3 months

I’m pretty sure at least half the population will get it before the vaccine is available.
