Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

Rielly 2018-19
CA rel/60
Elite (40.3 TOI%): -0.62
Middle (37.3 TOI%): 11.09
Grit (22.4 TOI%): 6.47

Rielly 2019-20
CA rel/60
Elite (37.2 TOI%): 0.36
Middle (37.2 TOI%): 11.11
Grit (25.6 TOI%): 7.29

Just bizarre.

Ceci was actually pretty good defensively. It was in the offensive zone that he looked like a plumber.

No question he was unplayable outside of his own zone, but even there, there's no stat that can convince me that he was better than Holl was defensively this year.

IMO the real interesting part of that is the success level vs. elite, medium and grit rather than the TOI% breakdown.

So vs Elite

Rielly: 37.2 TOI%, 51.2 CF%, 3.40 CF rel, 8.08 CF/60 rel, 0.36 CA/60 rel
Muzzin: 34.8 TOI%, 48.10 CF%, -11.19 CF/60 rel, -2.47 CA/60 rel
Dermott: 25.2 TOI%, 52.00 CF%, -0.41 CF/60 rel, -6.61 CA/60 rel
Holl 35.9 TOI%, 46.4 CF%, -10.91 CF/60 rel, 0.41 CA/60 rel
Barrie 24.2 TOI%, 50.2 CF%, 5.54 CF/60 rel, 3.80 CA/60 rel
Ceci 34.8 TOI%, 50.9 CF%, 1.65 CF/60 rel, -3,01 CA/60 rel

I wish they had xG,but Rielly is only slightly below average in shot suppression vs elite comp.

Also keep Dermott at all costs.

And Ceci > Holl. Holl kinda sucks in a shutdown role.

their dff% (difficult fenwick) is their version of expected goals, btw.

Rielly does not have super-elite usage.

comfortably top-10 over the last 5 years (i.e. since age 21). Top-5 in more than one of those years

may have slipped out of the top-10 this year for the first time, but probably still top-15.

(amongst dmen of a significant minutes minimum, of course).
