Hey Nerds: Blockchain

We all have our breaking point. Mine was comfortably living off of my ganj winnings, redistributing them like a good smart boy and then watching it get fucking pummelled because of the Kung Flu and not having a clue on what the world was going to look like in a few weeks or months....and not wanting to go back to working for someone else during Spanish Flu 2: Electric Boogaloo.

I wanted to preserve enough cash that if this was a 1-2 year shitshow (and here we are), that I'd be okay. I'm only 41, I can make it back. It was the wrong decision that was a right decision.
My parents liquidated their tfsas nearly at the exact fucking bottom. Timed it to perfection. Was a scary time so I dont blame them for anything but going relatively aggressive at their ages. They don't have as much time to make it back.

I know my limits! It's just a draining fucking hobby and I wouldn't wish it on anyone!

Boring buy and holders >>>>
I really do wish I could just have a trader like CH take control of that account and do his thing.

If I were to adopt trading as a new activity, bye bye law practice.

I totally agree...but a true boring buy and holder should not be frequenting a degenerate stock thread nestled in a hockey forum

it's like a mormon going to an after hours nightclub out of "curiosity"

Also LOF crushes it doing what he currently does. Don't think it's worth mixing it up just for the sake of it.
CH is right though. Everything in moderation is usually best.

I'm so extreme long that it leaves me susceptible to flat or down years. I do nothing to counteract that.

I should be using a bit of dough for some at bats with the bases loaded, but I'm not quite there yet.

Maybe I just like spending all my fucking time posting on a message board for free.

Just buy weed stocks, close your eyes and come back in five years. Fuck trading or any of that funny business.

My mom had her friends all selling at that time, all telling her she was crazy to stay in, and she kept bugging me about whether she should liquidate. I told her, here's what history tells us, so the smarter bet is probably to just hold on. She's nicely ahead now (not invested in tech high flyers really, aside from some Nasdaq and S&P ETFs, but still up nice for her conservative portfolio).

I'm not looking so frequently for the purpose of taking action.

I'm just so fucking into it when it's going well.

When it's not, I literally can't look. I don't login to the account to even see the damage.

I wasn't quite at the bottom (but not nearly as far fucking away from it as I'd like...) and I got back on the train a little late, but no complaints about how the rest of the year went. All of my Canadian MJ adventurism and taking a step back to be safer, was always about preparing for US legalization. It's going to be a historic money making opportunity, I've been saying that since what, 2015?

except emotionally (this is just between us of course) he sweats every 3% pullback....

that's not classic BBH (boring/buy and holder) behaviour...in fact a BBH does the opposite, down 3%..interesting....down 10%...very interesting. let me buy more....

that's us, btw, with our pot stocks today, we're in it for the long haul...so we did not complain about today's action

and then we also have a degenerate side (you:CSE arbitrage, me: options) that feeds us dopamine and makes us extra bread.

tl;dr you can be boring in one account; and party in the other

But he buys and he holds. Sticks to the plan. A trader that emotionally invested is a recipe for disaster imo.

I used to sweat pullbacks on the regular. Maybe two years ago. It would really bring me down to see the account go all red. Not just that day red, but all time red. But time and patience and some steel in the gut allowed me to build up enough of a cushion in gains, that now when there's a pullback, I'm not sweating it at all really. I express my dissatisfaction, that's all. I mean, I'm down a crazy amount in dollars today, but it's like whatever.

As for the buying on pullbacks, that's not really part of my philosophy. As you know, I kinda go deep and establish a position and then leave it. Say I bought Tesla at $250, watched it go to $900, and then drop back to $800. I don't see that last pullback as an opportunity. I'm not buying more Tesla at $800 and fucking with my sweet $250 cost basis. So it's not a chance to do anything other than half-heartedly lament the loss of that extra $100 of equity that I had in the stock.

Now, when I've established my position and then the stock drops below and I'm in the red, I consider buying more then. I did that with Kong. Once it took a nosedive, I bought some more because I look at it like, I was down anyway, so if I buy more and bring my average cost down, at minimum I'm giving myself a chance to exit sooner without a loss if I need to, or if I'm still into the company, just holding more for the run up that I'm banking on.

Very, very rarely have I reloaded on pullbacks after I'd established my position and I was in the green. Maybe a few times.

you do realize that buying up on great companies is the best way to make money

not that my pot stocks are great companies (yet) but if I had stopped buying more TRUL after I initially got in at the stupid price of $9, my account would be significantly smaller today.

On the macro my opinion is still the same but tempered with one new piece of information

- There will be no MJ business in Mexico without cartel involvement, full stop. It's going to be a massive drag on the industry down there. Whether it's "security" for grow operations or protection money for retail, there is no way the cartels are letting a cash crop like that into the hands of others. They'll kill whoever they need to, as needed.

- Amlo seems intent on ensuring that small local operators are the ones who benefit from legalization and not MNC's. KHRN still has Vincente Fox on their board so we'll see if and how that holds, but they're definitely not signalling an "open for business" environment for legalization. The church is obviously against it, the cartels are against it. Those are basically the two most powerful social structures in the country. Skating up hill for anyone in the industry who can't manage those counter currents imo.
