GDT: Round 2, Game 5 Canes @ Caps 5/15, 7:00

I love that Carberry quote that the Canes are the easiest team to scout because they’re predictable. That certainly wasn’t of benefit to the Caps because they had no answer.

As JB pointed out, the boys were dominant in each important aspect of the game. Overall, the Canes are predictable but damn if it doesn’t work— forecheck, backcheck, PK, puck pressure, cycle—-just how I recall RBA’s game as a player.

Liked Staal, RBA and Svech’s interactions with Ovi in the line. I like that the warriors can come together after the battle.

Well, I believed that they would still be a contender and mocked the experts back then.

I thought they would be a playoff team from the get go but, I wasn’t as convinced as I was in years past. However, the pieces they got at the deadline were perfect for what Rod likes to do and they really made them a contender. Gotta give Tulsky and his crew of analytics masters credit. They nailed it.

I thought they'd get to round 2 and then it's a toss up; they're certainly better than I expected right now, but my expectations were pretty high considering

I've always kind of fallen for the hype on Carbery and he DID do a great job getting that roster to gel, especially given the number of changes they made. But, after a playoff series I see him for what he is. A slick guy who's well spoken and good with the media, but doesn't have the tactical acumen to back it up. What I saw from them tactically was straight out of the Captain Kirk book of dreams and that crap doesn't work under pressure. We know that well enough, since we were stuck with that idiot for 3 years. I'm not sure what Roddy said to Muller in the handshake line, but the deer in headlights look on his face was enough for me to get a chuckle.

Me too. It's great to see the players interacting with grace and good humor - even if it's sometimes insincere. Ovi had a career that is one for ages, but not for this series - and it's nice to see our team acknowledging the former.

Ovi got exposed quite a bit, hardly ever backchecks any longer, he was very frustrated most of the time when the puck doesn't get to him but not willing to do the hard work to retrieve pucks, Stanky really made him look bad with that burst off the Nikishin pass.

Far be it for me to be an apologist for Ovechkin, but he's 39 years old and broke his leg in the middle of a season where he went hell bent for leather to pass Gretzky for a record most people thought would never be broken. If his tank is empty, well it was more than worth it. And yeah, his tank was empty.

As he skated morosely into the corner after Svech scored.
