Wow, you have a pretty high opinion of how much credit Mitch deserves for Auston’s goal-scoring, eh?

Keep in mind that Auston scored 40 goals as a 19 year-old rookie while pretty much never playing with Mitch either at even strength or on the power-play.

The market and the cap dictate how much you can get. It has nothing to do with how much some other guy makes on a contract he signed 2 years ago.

Marner couldn't make more than Matthews because he's going to sign in 2025 with the 2025 cap number. Matthews, if he were a UFA now, would get even more but he's not a UFA. But the amount he signed for way back when has zero bearing on what UFA's will get this summer.
