Around The League - 2025 Offseason

97 had 18 points in 13 games in the last two finals. Leon had 8 in 6 this year, after just 3 assists in 7 last year.

Barkov gets a pass because they won but he only had 2 goals (none this year) and 10 points in 13 games. But Florida has so much more depth that he was able to play shutdown against McD.

If Florida is able to only focus on 2 players to shut down, that's not too hard for them.
For years now teams with a great third line are winning cups , and that line with Marchand and Lundell was fucken unstoppable

I thought the TB line with Gourde / Coleman / or the Pitt line with Kessel/ Bonino was great but that Florida line was their best line

Yeah, Edmonton doesn't really have that third line, or second, or fourth.

That said, both EDM and (especially) TML were at least partly screwed by COVID. They gave out legitimately top end contracts in the prior years, not knowing the cap would be frozen for… what… three years? That utterly kneecapped their ability to build balanced rosters.

Now, they have/had some bigly bad contracts, Nurse and Tavares for instance, but all teams have have crap contracts to certain extent and it just underscores how tight the situation was and how little flex they had compared to now.

Bad contracts are bad deals regardless of Covid or a stagnant cap

Oliers are not doing cart wheels because Nurse`s deal looks better in a 95-100 mil cap
