GDT: Canes @ Ottawa 1/24 7:00

Safely landed at 1:24am. Love me some flightradar24
This is good news! With 4 days off, I know the players really wanted to be with their families. Hopefully, everyone made it home safe and sound.

While this wasn't our most impressive performance, it was a solid road win - and Bussi continues to impress. We spent the 3rd period on our heels and almost entirely in our zone, but we also played a smart game to put this one to bed.

While is this all too true, but they made a meal out of slapping the puck out of their sticks when really needed. And it helped that the Sens got Bussed.

Every game thread we spend a whole lot of time complaining about how terrible they are at this and how bad they are at that. So and so can’t do this and so and so is bad at that… yet they have the 2nd best record in the league…again. Lol. I’ll have to delete my account if they ever do back to crappy Carolina Hurricanes 🤣🤣

Expectations have been raised in the last 7 years.

And the collective fan base, here included, is a bit spoiled as a result, so it's worth being aware of.

However, I can pretty much guarantee when things turn the other way, as they inevitably will again in the cycle of things, this community here will deal with it much more rationally and maturely than, say, the more "public" channels, so ya best be ready to delete all your social accounts if the criticism here annoys ya ;)

i only use social media to post my photos. I am too smart to read that garbage. I’ll save the rest for the misc. thread lol

Canes were 0-6 on PP faceoffs. That’s a big part of the problem, they lose 20-30 seconds each time they can’t secure possession after a faceoff. They won a paltry 32% for the game. Staal was 8-27, Aho was 1-11, Stanky was 5-10, Janky was 3-7.

Bussi save % up to .911.
I just checked and the league wide save percentage has continued its recent decline and is currently at .897 after finishing at .900 last season. If they finish the season below .900 then it would be the first time that’s happened since 1993-94.

Just for context. For about a decade or so, the standard for “effective goalies” was a save percentage in the neighborhood of .910

The puck is going too fast for the goalies to react. They will have to either soften the puck or change the sticks, maybe go back to wood and no curve.
