The Official Post-Bitch 2025-26 Regular Season Thread

9 years of core players failing miserably in the playoffs . No regime in any sport puts up with this shit. You were handed 2 inferior teams in the covid years and still fucked it up.
After the Habs debacle core needed to be ripped up.

Except there isn't 9 years of the core players failing miserably in the data. This is where your goofy analysis breaks down.

I've gone over this, with the numbers, many times before and can't be bothered to dig them up again. But this entire narrative of yours is fucking fiction and even if it wasn't, the two members of the core with the worst playoff performances are either gone or making 3rd line money now.

I'm going to say this slowly for you. Our single biggest playoff issue over the last 9 years has been the organization putting "low event" dogshit around our best players and expecting 5 guys to outscore an entire team they were playing against. That is what the data shows.

Don't need analytics to see team has no spine and the much needed will doesn't match the skill to go far

See, this is the issue. You think we had skilled teams. We didn't. We had a few high skill players and then boring, mostly soft defence first supporting cast around them.

Rebuilding during what should be Auston and Willy's prime is a hilarious idea obviously.

But the priority should be to get Auston back health-wise. His physical skills have clearly diminished in a quantitative way. I trust Dr. Gillis to find solutions.

When your day job is a home renovation contractor, every home is a gut job.

*Geeman may or may not be involved in construction. Comments are for entertainment purposes only. Not career advice.

their biggest issue is they have the worst scouting in the league. the rest -- baffling trades, wasteland minor league system, chronic lack of roster depth, etc -- follows as a natural consequence of that. their character assessment of players is also bottom of the barrel.

I would have been a lot happier if Pelley went up there and said "We want someone in charge of the hockey operation who believes in drafting and development and between that and a willingness to spend to the cap each season will turn this organization into the wealthy hateable talent factory it should be".

Instead, he talked about analytics. Analytics isn't their problem. It's just a tool. they already went through this with Dubas. Lack of smart management and correct assessment of hockey players is their problem.

realistically how long do you think will it take to retool their D?

If they don't land a top 5 pick, I think it will take two off seasons

Yeah, two off seasons for a full re do is probably right. Though throwing money at Raddysh and Andersson this summer while finding Rielly a new home probably expedites that. McCabe and OEL are both good.

Tbh I think pelley was just saying the last guy was a doofus and the new guy will be expected to have a brain and the ability to think and reason.

2 if they have the right process (which also increases their odds of getting lucky!). But they can turn this d corps into something decent this summer. Probably not where it needs to be tho. That top 5 pick is so crucial.

Lol literally every gm in the world claims to prioritize "drafting and developing".

Yeah relying on the data couldn’t possibly help with scouting…

I think some people mistake "analytics" as a tool when it's actually a decision making framework.

If you scout a player and their performance metrics are bad but you think they skate pretty and are actually good...your eyes are wrong, move on. Thats the difference between using it as a tool and a decision making framework.

The sad part is under wes Clark the Leafs drafting was actually really good. Between 21 and 23 they drafted 4 NHLers (Knies, Minten, Cowan and Grebenkin) and another guy that looks like a good goalie (Hildeby) with only 11 picks and 1 first round.

I largely agree with this analysis, though also disagree a bit on Matthews. He’s part of the problem too and consistently hasn’t been good enough in the playoffs.

Does that mean he’s been a playoff ghost? Or a bigger cause of our playoff failures than the shit depth he’s been surrounded with? No.

But never, not in any single playoff run in his career have we ever seen the dominant, 60-70-goal version of Matthews, or a heater where he puts up the kind of stupid numbers a guy like McDavid’s started to put up every playoff run now. Fuck, he struggles to even score at a point-a-game pace. He’s only managed that twice in nine career playoff runs, and only barely.

That said, GEEMAN’s “tear everything down & trade everything away & tank forever & fuck it, just fold the franchise” strategy is still pants-on-head-stupid, of course. As long as you’ve still got Auston under contract, you keep trying & hope he’ll put it all together in one magical playoff run, like Ovechkin.

Stop this bullshit
Your core players failed miserably every fucken playoff year when it matters.

You had countless opportunities to win but your guns never performed in the clutch .
