Around The League: Playoffs 2026

Demidov, Reinbacher, Xhekaj, Monty

That’s what they will ask for. Or something like it.

If you were Oilers, would you actually accept such a deal ?

But also can't forget that McDavid will dictate where he's going, and if he's leaving Oilers, it ain't for another Canadian team.

No, probably not.

My point was that this is what we can offer.
Demidov would almost be mandatory. After him, it’s mix and match.

I agree he’d going to the US, and EDM would have likely accept he’ll be in the Western Conference.

I think Oilers ask for both Hutson and Demidov.....and HuGO would say no thanks (i think)

It's McDavid we're talking about....

Are Habs closer to a Cup with Hutson+Demi, or with McDavid ? The answer to that question is what helps HuGo decide.

(McDavid ain't coming here.....he's going to US team if he leaves Edmonton)

Can’t be “and”.

Or.

I agree.....

but it's McDavid....from a purely hockey trade (without factoring the no-trade clauses and where McDavid wants to go), you do that trade any day....you're getting arguably a top 5 talent all time, for Hutson+Demi.

Again, he ain't coming here LOL

They already habe Bouchard and Purse, they can't afford a 3rd 8.5 + dman
that's like saying we have Theo, we don't need to draft Price

Oilers have been trying to find a taker for Purse since the day he signed that contract (which McDavid apparently insisted with management that they resign his buddy Purse)

How many mid-career vets would waive to go to EDM? (And imagine their cap hits.)

Who is willing to be the Huberdeau/Weegar to McRunnerUp’s Tkatchuk?

It would probably need to be a package with elite yutes, and there aren’t that many teams who can supply a package.

This is where an org needs to play dirty behind the curtain - Pollock played dirty which allowed for some of his successes…

HuGo seem to “possess the capacity” to emulate such behavior…

A McDavid deal would be almost identical to Gretzky deal:

Carson + Gelinas + 3 1st rounders + $15M

Given $ can no longer be traded: would likely be 3 young NHL ready top end prospects + 2-3 1st rounders

better than getting trash in 2 years , but yes its a USA team

Pretty easy prediction to make when Montreal is one option and US has 25 options

That's a very simplistic way of putting it.....because we both know it has nothing to do with numbers. Look at how McDavid is fed up with media, what makes us think he's gonna jump from Oilers to an even crazier media jungle in Montreal.

His agent will push for a team that will always be able to attract talent to surround him, even as he hits his 30's.....and those are more likely to be US teams (especially in those with no state taxes).

He can win in his Cup in Nevada, Florida, Texas....doesn't need to live the pressure cooker of MTL. Gorton himself said that you get lost in US cities, but you can't go anywhere in MTL

(i'm getting better at this WeHave thing....or worse if you look at it that way)

so sad....that regular fans could see the problems in Edmonton, but ownership kept hiring recycled GM's that we all knew shouldn't be running teams anymore (Chirelli, Holland, Bowman).

Hockey players are too nice....if this was NBA, McDavid would have forced a trade when Holland was named GM...let alone Bowman
